Finally managed to get a half decent photo of one of the coolest birds in the area! They always stay too far away or fly blended into the tree line so makes it hard to get a clear photo but finally one flew close enough and contrast to the sky to get a nice shot like this. I could never get tired of seeing these gorgeous birds.

I’m trying to slow down and notice the smaller creatures in nature rather than always focusing on the larger ones like birds and mammals etc so I got these beautiful shots of this Darter that was taking a break in the sunshine on this wooden beam. Never realised just how pretty these were until I saw it up close. Next goal is to attempt a photo mid flight although not sure my reaction time is fast enough to get that.

The highlight of yesterday was definitely getting to add this gorgeous Glossy Ibis to my life list! Depending on the light it can go from just kinda plain black/brown to suddenly having greens, reds, oranges and purples shimmering across its feathers! We were very lucky to be able to watch 2 of these for quite some time.

The absolute highlight from last weekend was seeing my first ever wild otters! 🦦 There was 3 of them that stayed around for ages and even got close enough for me to take these beautiful headshots of one of the more inquisitive ones that was looking at us in the hide. I’ll post some videos of their antics soon too.

Finally managed to photograph a Kingfisher perched! Not the crispest photos as I was too excited seeing it so didn’t change any of my camera settings, but still so cool to see this beauty so close. Somehow though this wasn’t even the highlight of the day out, I’ll post that when I go through the photos.

After not picking up my camera in a long time now I finally decided to again the other day and I got some pictures of the cute little frogs at the pond in my parents garden. They were hard to photograph being that they’re only about one or two centimetres so long plus I’ve only got a long lens but still they worked out okay.

Last nights moon was so pretty! Crazy how it’s just a big lump of rock flying around at high speed in space and yet it brings such a peaceful feeling to the night sky. One of the few joys of working nights is being awake in the peace and calm of night and getting to stand and watch the moon for a while in silence
