I used to dream about a life like this, never thinking I’d one day be working to call myself an engineer. It’s been a wild journey, one that’s tested me more times than I can count, but with the right people beside me, I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. taken in Cookeville, Tennessee by @rob.beard_

Who am I?
A smiling boy by waters wide,
A morning breeze where leaves confide.
A blessing soft for hearts forlorn,
A mouse in burrows, safe and warm.

Who am I?
The crackling wood consumed by flame,
A mother sewing, proud to claim
The joy of meeting her daughter soon,
Each stitch a hymn, a sacred tune.

Who am I?
A man who shields his heart in vain,
To guard it from its aching strain.
The boy who pens these lines to try:
To answer still—"Who am I?"

This summer was a leap of faith.
Leaving behind my family, the farm, and my hometown, I moved to Knoxville to live with my brother and begin an internship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where I studied polymer electrolytes for solid-state batteries. What started as a daunting experience turned into an incredible journey of learning and growth.

I want to take a moment to appreciate the beautiful friendships I formed along the way. My cohort members and roommates became some of my closest friends, providing a safe space and a sense of home. I'm incredibly grateful to my brother, Hayden, for being my rock and making me feel at home. A special shoutout to Stinky, for his unconditional love and those endearing (if somewhat scary) smiles.

I'm also deeply thankful to the University of Tennessee Oak Ridge Innovation Institute for inviting me on this journey, and to Jenny Beeken and her wonderful family for being my family away from home and helping me build valuable connections at Oak Ridge National Lab.

As I look forward to my new home on Rocky Top, I'm excited about my next internship in Nuclear and Radiological Security! 🍊 taken in University of Tennessee, Knoxville by @rob.beard_

Isabella Island
So thankful for this experience so far. I love it here. So much wildlife. So little time.
It’s so inspiring how happy people are here. Even with so little.
I am so thankful for IOI, Columbia State, and TNcis for making this happen.
