THE HEAT

There was, in fact, no heat during this practise session. It was actually quite frigid.

Nevertheless, I cannot even begin to describe how cathartic this take felt.

SEEK BROMANCE

This one has been sitting in my drafts for the past month. I was procrastinating posting it because it’s the proudest I’ve ever been of my dancing, which is a strangely ironic reason.

This was filmed two days before submitting my dissertation, so it was adjacent to a watershed moment in my life. In this moment, I felt a blooming contentment being within arm’s reach of the finish line.

Sometimes after constant grinding of sub-par takes, you surprise yourself, prove yourself wrong again, and move closer to the version of your imagined ideal dancer-self in your head that feels eternally elusive.

This take was a leap towards the elusive self, and also marks the end of an overdue chapter - a conclusion that means the world to me, after what felt like years of struggling and failing to close it.

Thank you to those who got me through this intensive period. Hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did. And a monumental thank you to Cutting Shapes for everything it’s given me. ✂️✂️✂️

MAKE BELIEVE

Last Sunday’s session with @mjmakesmoves has borne this magical fruit. A reward for a dry weekend of dancing the week prior.

The old school tune gave me the space to tap into a run that focused on the ‘essence’ of shapes. It truly comes from the simple, rhythmic microbounce - everything else will blossom and follow.

I also had to clench my gluteus with vigorous intensity in order to get up at the end.

BLESSINGS

Not my cleanest take, but there is a lot of heart in this one. I’m sure I have more to say, but dance is slowly becoming my transforming into my conduit for expression, instead of a mirage for my deep-rooted chronic diffidence.

IMMA BE MY OWN BEST FRIEND (11/06/2026)

Sometimes, the mere existence of a piece of art can be a subtle, yet monumental net positive to the world. This track happens to be one of those pieces of art for me.

Twenty three years of existence; half a decade of carving out my conduit of expression through dance. At some point along the way, I’ve subconsciously decided that the perpetual movement of this vessel through dance, has become a non-negotiable to me. My ephemeral feelings towards movement in the moment are not up for debate - whether I’m itching to dance or if a fleeting indolence yearns for idleness, I must dance, because it is the connection to the art that anchors me - the art being the abstract entity much larger than myself.

I have learned that friendship towards oneself is paradoxically cultivated through this worship to things bigger than the self, and in this case, it is my art, my movement, and my loved ones. It stops the being from collapsing inwards - from ego becoming the only thing the soul can worship in all its myopic obsession. It is the recognition that you have the right to build and be your own universe, but you are within orbit of other universes; of other people, as deeply complex, sophisticated, wounded and flourishing as much as your own. What a great honour it is to collide with other universes, regardless if said collisions are messy, peaceful, invigorating or utterly destructive.

Happy to be have lived this past year. Dedicated to my loved ones. Dedicated to myself.

SUN IS GONE

It’s been years since I’ve posted a sock shapes video, let alone filming one in this place. It’s wonderful to be back in one of my original dojos - a place where I allowed myself to fail freely and without judgement in the comfort of my own solitude. I remember how liberating it felt to still be a ‘beginner’, and to be comfortable with not being good at something for once.

Something also tells me that this is going to be an important house track to me for a very long time. What an ethereal melody.
