I’m not gonna lie, it’s gonna be strange not seeing everyone in the halls, not feeling that familiar fear of others calling out “ROBTOM”. It’s funny how the little things, those shouts or even those shared looks when a teacher said something ridiculous, those are the memories that linger the longest. I’ve often used this analogy, how balloons drift higher and higher, until they’re just a dot in the sky, still there, just farther away…that’s our US journey: It seems unforgiven when a good thing ends, but you and I will always be back then. Your friends, they’ll all be back then. Boys, this isn’t a goodbye, just a “see you soon;” however, if soon never comes, just know I’ll always remember. From July 5-12, I returned for my second summer with PALS Programs. What makes PALS so amazing is that you meet people, these individuals with Down Syndrome, that completely challenge and reshape how you see the world in all the best ways. They will teach you what joy looks like, genuine, unrushed joy. And in a world that often moves too fast, this camp will invite you to sit down, notice the small miracles, and really live in the moment. I’m so glad we had this time together just to laugh, dance, and sing some songs. Seems just as fast as it started, before you know it, comes the time we have to say so long. I had such a magical time at @pals.cleveland this past week. The sparkle in every partner’s eyes, the smiles on their faces, and their comforting embrace was enough to bring anyone to tears. In these moments, the world seems to pause, allowing you to live in the present, surrounded by loves and simple pleasures, truly being able to appreciate all that makes life extraordinary. To say this past week was merely magical is an understatement as I created memories that I will forever cherish, bringing a smile to my face even on the gloomiest of days.
