I’m proud to share my feature from the current issue of @uppercasemag, as promised. It has been such an honor to be in this treasured publication, surrounded by so many other like minded makers. I’m stilllllll slowly going through it, to prolong this joy as long as I can.

Years ago, I remember buying and pouring over the book “I 🤍 Stationery”. I had only found out about it after it was published, and wishing that I could be included in something like that someday. This is that someday!

I just had a long overdue hair cut and I’m more than ready for the long weekend and festivities. To kick it off, I’m so excited to share that I have a 4 page article in Art Quilting Studio magazine (a @stampington magazine, and division of Somerset). The article is about my quilted planner covers and I’m about to work on a couple new ones, as I type this. The magazine is slated to come out in June, and I’ve seen the publication for sale at local craft and book stores, so check it out next month! I realized that even though I had made and shared pictures of these new mini #Blackwing pencil notepads, I had not actually listed them online. I do this all the time, good grief. I probably have a dozen other items I make and have available, but they can’t be found for sale in my shop.

Same size as my regular mini pencil notepads, this one is strictly a variety of Blackwing only pencils, with rotating images throughout the pad. Each illustration was made by me with pencil and watercolors during Pattern January 2026. Hi, it’s Robyn @robayre here for @theartskep with a much delayed post. The law of inertia seems to apply to social media, and when I’m not posting, it is so hard to get back into posting again regularly. You know what I’m talking about 😉

Last week I took a very last minute, ill prepared and impromptu, solo trip to the Indiana Dunes. Every year after our annual family trip to the dunes I want to immediately turn back around and just chill at the beach by my lonesome. Scheduling was difficult but I finally made it happen this year, and I’m glad I did.

I always like to imagine painting and drawing at the beach, but rarely ever do. As this was such a last minute trip I didn’t bring much stuff with me (even including change of clothes, etc.) so I didn’t work on anything while I was there. BUT I did do a lot of beach combing and came home with plenty of treasures from the beach. When I got home assembled this overlay consisting of all sorts of man-made-materials I collected from the beach (including some from my trip in August) and then proceeded to illustrate it on watercolor.

At the time, I didn’t think of it as a potential #robayrepatterns piece, but now I realize it very much could be, the second slide has highlights added in digitally, in Procreate, using a airbrush and watercolor brushes. I didn’t sketch out anything beforehand, and proceeded by color (painting ever brown glass piece first, then every piece of garden pot next, then aqua glass, and on and on, so it doesn’t align perfectly, but i also surprised myself that it wasn’t too far off either.

Tiny planners for people who make tiny plans. I should have shared these again on Hobonichi day.

August was a blast. I had to re-downloaded 1SE so that I could document it, and I need to start using it again because it is so much fun to look back at these later. I’ve been slowly adding new stationery sets to my Faire and Etsy shops. This one was a last minute addition to my last print run. I originally made it as a sample for a potential workshop, and I loved it so much, I just had to make it into a letter writing set.

Most of my sets have very faint lines or grids to help keep writing straight, but this one felt weird to add lines to the design. I was listening to a stationery podcast recently where they were talking about using a lined guide behind their papers to keep writing straight. Also, I remember when I was a kid, reading in a handwriting analysis book about if your writing slopes naturally upward vs downhill, it means you are optimistic vs pessimistic. In general if I don’t use guides, and I look back at my writing later, it almost always slopes up. There’s also stuff about if your letters lean forward vs backward, but I can’t remember what it meant.

How about you? Have you ever noticed if you write upward, or downhill? Do you prefer lined paper? Do you ever use writing guides behind blank paper?

Unceremoniously, last night I finally finished my crocheted blanket. It’s probably been a couple of years that I’ve been working on it, off and on. I have maybe a third of a ball remaining after I did an impromptu scalloped edge, so not too bad for just guessing when I’d reach the end.

The back story on this blanket is a fun one - a friend Eileen was crotcheting a blanket at an all day craft event at my sister’s church. My sister and I LOVED the yarn, OBSESSED with it. Eileen was using this simple pattern called Rectangle Granny. The colors are so vibrant and saturated.

We asked what the yarn was and Eileen said (slide 2 ➡️) “Boho Spirit, the color is called Zest, but I’m sorry, I bought the last of it.” My sister’s like “We will see about that!” And got on her phone and found a shop abroad somewhere, England maybe, that still had a whole stash.

We all went in on it together and bought everything they had and split it evenly among us. We each had 19 (NINETEEN!) balls of yarn, are followed that same pattern. I’m pretty sure I’m the one that has finished first.

Last slide - I’m the one in the center with the most blanket finished, 📷 taken in Feb of this year.

Another thing is that the three of us each preferred the separate colors, I like the greens, my sister liked the oranges and Eileen liked the purples. The finished blanket looks perfect on our green velvet couch 😍
