These are the men I look to.

When I have questions about fatherhood.
Marriage. Faith. Money. Strength.
Raising capable children.
Building a family with intention.
Being a man of integrity in the world.

Whatever I’m up against in life,
these are the men I want in my corner.

Men whose work has challenged me.
Men whose perspective has changed mine.
Men whose has example has raised my standards.
Men whose friendship kept me going in the hardest of times.

No one of us has this whole thing figure out.
That’s precisely WHY this room is important.

We all need men around us who know something we don’t. Who are skilled in areas in which we aren’t developed.

Who see things we can’t.

Who’ve walked roads we haven’t been down yet.

Be careful who and what you surround yourself with. Your surroundings determine who you are
and the man your family gets when you arrive home.

Together, we’re reviving fatherhood,
family, and moral leadership.

If you’re on fire for your family
and you want to lead them BETTER,
you should be in this room.

I didn’t build this because I have it all figured out.

I built it because I haven’t

I’ve needed better men around me
at almost every major turning point in my life.

Men who knew something I didn’t.
Men who could see what I couldn’t.
Men who challenged the way I was living.
Men whose example raised my own standard.

And I’m still learning.

Learning how to be a better husband.
A better father.
A better provider.
A stronger man of faith.
A better example for my family.
A better leader for them.

I don’t think we were ever
supposed to do this work alone.

You are the company you keep.

And that company shapes the man
that walks in that door every night.

So this September, I’m bringing together
the best men I know around ONE MISSION:

Reviving fatherhood, family, & moral leadership.
And showing men the way so you don’t
have to be perfect and figure
it all out on your own.

September 11-13.
$17 GA // $47 VIP.

If you’re on fire for your family
and you want to lead them even BETTER,
you belong in this room.

Comment PATRIARCH
and I’ll personally send you the invite.

I’ve spent the past six years building spaces for men to become stronger.

In body. In mind.
In their marriages.
Their fathering.
Their faith.

I haven’t just built these spaces
for other men. I build them
because I need them too.

And on a day when
men didn’t step in,
just one man did.

He had the bags to tell me
straight-away that he wasn’t okay.

And instead of lifting weights
and doing what was planned,
we did what was needed.

We slowed down.
We went deep.
We prayed.

And both of us walked out of that room
different than we walked in.

Later that day he sent a message
that I’ll carry with me for a long time.

A reminder of why God called me to this work.
And why every man — myself included — needs it.

Because even the man that everyone depends on
still needs people that he can depend on.

The man everyone comes to
needs a place he can go.

The man who helps others find their way
needs other men to help him stay the course.

Scripture warns us that The Adversary
is a roaring lion, looking for men to devour.

I’ve come to realize that he doesn’t devour the weak.
He isolates — and devours those who are separated.

Isolation = death.

// Be watchful. Stand firm.
Act like men. And be strong.

Hundreds of phone contacts.
Countless dead text message threads.
Hundreds, thousands of followers.

A house full of people you love,
who all depend on you.

You smile.
“I’m doing good.”

And nobody knows what you’re carrying.
Not because nobody cares.

But because somewhere along the line,
you learned the only way to carry it
was to carry it alone.

To say you’re good when you’re not.
To be the man everyone can count on
without letting anyone know.

Golf buddies aren’t necessarily brotherhood.

And I hate to say it.
But more often than not,
your Bible study men’s group
isn’t either.

Not if nobody knows the real man.
What’s happening for him in the dark.
They become more places to hide.

Being surrounded by people
isn’t the same as being known.

A man needs men
who know when something’s off.
Men who will call him back to the path.

But that means surrounding yourself with men
who can see when you’ve wandered off it,
and have the stones to call you back.

He gave me this thing and called it a temple.
That changed the way I think about training.

Of course I want to look good naked.
I think my wife deserves that.

Of course I want to live a long life.
I only get one go around.

But neither is the reason I train.
I train because there are people I love
who depend on this body being useful.

I want to carry my children when their legs get tired.
Throw them over my shoulder when they ask.
Chase their bikes down the street.

Move the furniture.
Carry the groceries.
Split the wood.

Do the work.
Help the neighbor.
Protect my family if the day ever comes that I have to.

And someday, God willing,
get down on the floor with my grandchildren
and still be able to get myself back up.

I don’t care if my kids remember that Dad had abs.
I want them to remember that when
something heavy needed carrying —
no matter WHAT it was — Dad picked it up.

This body isn’t an ornament.
And ultimately, it isn’t even mine.
It was entrusted to me.

So I’ll train it.
Feed it.
Rest it.
Discipline it.

And do my best to return it
worn from the right kind of service.

Hard to Kill.
Easy to Love.
Fit for Service.

// Tend the temple

I think one of the hardest parts of fatherhood is discovering how much of your heart now lives outside your own body.

You can protect them from some things.

You can teach them.
Prepare them.
Walk beside them.

But you can’t keep their hearts from breaking.
And sometimes you can’t fix it when they do.

Yesterday, I couldn’t.

We rode our bikes around the neighborhood for 45 minutes, retracing every step he’d taken.

Every sidewalk.
Every turn.
Every place Luke might have fallen.

Nothing.

Finally, I looked at him and said,
“Hey man, I’m so sorry. We can’t find him.”

And then came the part I wasn’t prepared for.
He looked at me and said:

“It’s okay, Dad. Riding bikes with you
was better than even having Luke.”

That’s what burst my heart.

Because I thought there was something special
about giving my son this cool thing that
belonged to his dad when HE was a kid.

Something I could hand him and say,
“I played with this when I was your age.”

But yesterday he reminded me
that more than having something
that belonged to Dad…

HE wanted to belong to dad for a few minutes.

Two bikes.
Riding around the neighborhood together
looking for a lost Stormtrooper.

On an adventure.
That was enough.

@thedadedge reminded me,
to my son, LOVES is spelled TIME.

I think I’ll remember that bike rid
 a whole lot longer than I would’ve
remembered the toy.

// Keep showing up

CHOOSE YOUR WIFE

I’ll be embarrassingly honest.
I haven’t taken my wife
on a date this year.

We’ve lived on the edge
where we couldn’t purchase
hardware to repair cabinets
or doors without compromising
groceries or a mortgage payment.

Date nights out just
haven’t been in our cards.
They might not be for a little while.

But that doesn’t mean I gave up.
It doesn’t mean I didn’t LOVE her.

Because I can’t wait until
we can afford a night out
to choose my wife.

It’s about understanding the fire
that lights her heart,
and stoking that flame every day.

I serve her.
I praise her.
I admire her.
I thank her.
I appreciate her.
I move my days around
to support her when she’s tapped.

I massage her feet every single night
and listen to what’s happening in her world.

I’ve been asked to love her
the way He loved the church.

To serve her in the spirit
of His sacrificial leadership.

To wash her feet.
To unburden her.
To raise her up.
To love her without condition.

Not just to take her on dates.

I’m not perfect.
God knows I fall short.
But I love her with everything
that this fleshy human heart has.

CHOSE HER.
Serve her.
Every day.
No matter how hard life is.

A lot of us are living there.
Few will say it.

// Love her well

A win for the home gym. A win for the mission. 💪

I was blessed to win these HomeGrown Lifting Co. bumper plates as a participant in the Patriarch Virtual Summit led by Rob Bill Jr

But honestly, the plates are only part of the blessing.

What I appreciate most is being surrounded by men who are committed to becoming better fathers, husbands, leaders, and men of God.

Big thank you to Homegrown Lifting for helping me build out my home gym—and to Rob Bill Jr. for creating a space that challenges men to take responsibility for who they’re becoming.

If you get the opportunity to attend the next Patriarch Summit, get in the room.

With the might of the Egyptian army behind, Moses had to risk looking like a fool — and subsequently getting slaughtered — to do the will of The Lord.

“Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites
can go through the sea on dry ground.”
— Exodus 14:13-16

I’d rather look like a fool.

We wake up every morning doing it for them.
We’d do it every day of our lives.

Then we come home with nothing left to give them.

Our kids want to play.
Our wife’s been looking forward to us all day,
but she’s tapped out.

And we want everybody to stop
needing something for five minutes so we can rest.

Then we overreact.
“F*ck. I can’t believe I did that again.”

You’ve thought that before.

You love them. You love her.
And you know something has to change.

I know the pressure, anxiety, and panic
underneath a man’s drive. Facing that
myself is part of what brought me into this work.

Patriarch Retreat is four days to
step out of the noise and work on
what keeps coming home with you:

Your stress.
Your reactivity.
The play you miss for “rest.”
The conversations you avoid.
The distance between you
and your wife that keeps growing.

We’re gonna work on the things
you know you need to do, but no man
can really do by himself.

Staying grounded under pressure.

Going after what’s underneath the surface
without our wounds getting in the way.

Bringing presence, connection,
and desire back into our marriage.

Showing up as the sacrificial leader
they need us to be.

After the first one, Steve came home
with a deeper appreciation for his family.

Robert ravished his wife and had her legs
shaking like she’d never experienced before.

Those things matter to me.

This work has to come home with you.
And those results don’t come from reading a book.

Patriarch Retreat.
October 9–12.
Stronghold Center, Oregon, Illinois.
Only eight spots left.

$750 — $250 off until 11:59 PM Central
 this Sunday, October 4.

Lodging and meals included.
You just have to get yourself there.

Four days with me and a small group of men
willing to put in the work so their family
won’t have to do the work to recover from them.

If this is the work you’re ready to do,
comment KIVA and I’ll send you everything.

// We do the work
so they don’t have to.

I try not to put on a face here, but I haven’t shown you enough of where I actually am.

This is the truth.
I hate social media.
There’s so much AI slop now.
And honestly, I struggle to trust what I see here.

As for me:
I don’t have a marketing team.
I don’t have a beautified studio.
I don’t have a hundred men waiting
to work with me with everything I do.
I’m not running a magic six-figure coaching business.

I have a family that I feed with my work.
I work part time at a farm to keep the house
so my wife can stay home rig our kids and school them.
And I have an assignment I’ve been given.

I wake up every day anxious as hell
about what I’m going to say on here.

About what my next post is going to be.
And most days I doubt I’ll be able to make it work.

I didn’t choose this work.
God broke me.
He dragged me to rock bottom.
MULTIPLE TIMES.

And then laid a path before me
and asked me to walk it with no guarantees.

I’ll be damned if I abdicate that responsibility
because I’m embarrassed to let on about
where I actually am.

I work with men who know how to serve.
Who struggle to ask for help.
Men who will do anything for their family.

Work longer.
Carry more.
Say nothing.

Their kids get their stress.
Their wife gets their exhaustion.
And they can’t remember the last time
that they really felt fully alive.

I’m not talking about a few extra pounds.
I’m talking about a man slowly disappearing
inside the life he’s putting it all on the line for.

Because I’m that man.
I know about that life.
And this year more than any other
God has given me work to do here.

IDK if you see any of this.
But you’re going to see more of it.

The prayer.
The farm.
The training.
The fathering.
The love for my wife.
The raw sh/t I’m working through.
The brotherhood that I NEED TOO.

I don’t know how to fill my rooms.
Sometimes I feel like I can’t even
give my help away for free.

But I DO know how to show up for the men in front of me, and how to let God coach them through me.

And since He’s put me up to this,
I’m going to keep on pushing.

And I’ll keep surrendering up to Him
every single day.

And from one man to another,
I see you. taken in Lake Zurich, Illinois by @robbilljr

The enemy doesn’t need your marriage to explode.

Sometimes he just needs you both exhausted enough to stop tending it.

Pay attention to what slowly gets pushed aside.

Some things are too sacred for the back burner.

That’s where things go to cool slowly without
anyone noticing… until you look up
and wonder how you got
so far apart.

If you’re a husband reading this:
It’s your opportunity to take the lead.

Wherever you lead
she will follow.

// Protect the union.
