This year I had the privilege to run a Unreal Engine 5 Cinematic Workshop at Toronto Metropolitan University's, Red Bull Gaming Hub.

This event sold out with in 24 hours of the tickets going live and it was so fun to have students at all levels of experience come down to learn this ever growing part of the film industry.

I've been doing a lot of studying I'm the field of virtual production over the past year. And I have a few more events planned for 2024. Stayed tuned we are just getting started!

I challenged myself to recreate a shot from the movie Ex Machina (2014) In Unreal Engine 5.

This was extremely fun and definitely a challenge and there are still things I would want to change but I am extremely proud of myself.

I'll make an in-depth brake of the video when I got some free time because I used a lot of interesting techniques in order to replicate the shot in CG.

This is my submission to the Eternal Ascent 3D Community Challenge! Hosted by Clinton Jones. @_pwnisher_

These challenges bring thousands of 3D artists from around the world together and I am so happy I could be a part of it. This is the first one of his challenges I have submitted to and I'm so proud of how it turned out.

This project was so fun and I learned a lot about character retargeting. I can't wait to see the final render montage. I am working on a video that goes over my process so stay tuned for that, Hope everyone have a wonderful day.

Last month, I had the opportunity to host Scanning the Globe: The Digital Mine, an immersive art installation created in partnership with the Britannia Mine Museum in British Columbia.

Over 100 visitors attended the two-day exhibition, which featured interactive experiences including 3D-printed artifact recreations, a digital object viewer, a VR experience, a large-scale Gaussian splat reconstruction of Britannia Beach, and a documentary exploring the impact of Britannia Mine on the Canadian mining industry. Together, these works explored how technologies such as photogrammetry, Gaussian splatting, virtual reality, and 3D printing can be used to preserve and share cultural heritage.

As Creative Director and Executive Producer, I led the vision, coordinated the team, and oversaw the technical and creative development of the project, from on-site scanning in British Columbia to creating interactive experiences, 3D prints, and the exhibition itself.

I’m incredibly proud of what our team achieved. A huge thank you to my fellow project executives Kristofers Ozolins and James Bottomley, our project advisor Jonathan Anderson, the talented artists who contributed to the project, and our partners and sponsors for helping make it possible.

The project is far from over. We’re continuing to process artifact scans for a publicly accessible digital library and are exploring opportunities to exhibit the installation again in new venues. by @robert_dr_render

This past month, I taught an Introduction to Unreal & Virtual Production workshop for the Directors Guild of Canada - Ontario - with The Creative School Pro at Toronto Metropolitan University, in collaboration with Dark Slope.

I served as Workshop Lead for Day One, where participants were introduced to building virtual production–ready environments in Unreal Engine. The session was delivered at the Red Bull Gaming Hub and brought together DGC members and industry professionals interested in how virtual production is being applied in contemporary film and TV pipelines.

It was great working with our partners at Dark Slope on Day Two, where Justin Cathcart and Seulgi Lee demonstrated how this knowledge is applied in real-world production through informative demos showcasing different use cases on their LED volume.

Thank you to CSPro, the DGC, the Dark Slope team, and all the participants for the great conversations and engagement across both days. Always rewarding to apply practical virtual production knowledge and help bridge traditional production with real-time technologies.

Jani 2025

Great weekend with some friends celebrating the Latvian summer solstice festival of Jani.

It was so interesting to experience and be a part of these traditions, and this community. Thank you to everyone who made me feel extremely welcome and for allowing me to photograph this event.

Definitely an amazing experience and one I won't be forgetting anytime soon.

Inspired by the work of @davidmbird.

I have been working on a new photography series for the past month. Where the subjects are these small hand crafted woodland creatures called Becorns.

@davidmbird is an incredible artist and his photography is so rich with storytelling. I have been a fan for years so it was fun to try to explore a style so different from my own.

I made each of these figurines from sticks, acorns, and pine cones that I found at a local park. This was definitely one of the harder projects I've done recently and took a lot of experimentation to figure out the best way to photograph these small creatures.

I'm extremely happy with how they turned out and I want to do more this fall when I get some more building materials. by @robert_dr_render

Sled Ride in the snow

Took a day off during winter break to build some new becorns and get this shot. I included my editing process for this particular photo. I was fun to mix my visual effect and practical sides of my brain. Hope you have a great rest of your day!
