POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I am thrilled beyond rails to announce that today, at the age of 19, I fulfilled a lifelong wish of mine.

Working on the railroad. 🚂

Those who've known me growing up have known me as a train guy, and it all started when I got into Thomas the Tank Engine, iirc a year or so before kindergarten. Since then, I've embarked on countless train rides, mostly Metra and Amtrak including many long-distance journeys in sleeping cars. Met so many wonderful crew members during those rides. Paid many visits to Illinois Railway Museum as well as model train shows. Frequently visited train stations and other trackside locations to capture video and photo footage of trains going by. Tracked trains online using various softwares. Even bought a radio scanner to listen in on train crew communications when I go out watching or riding trains. Got a good amount of railroad merchandise at home too. All the fun stuff I've been doing, and will continue to do throughout my life, to keep myself around trains.

And now, my dream job has officially been brought to fruition. Today, I completed my first shift as a Volunteer Conductor and Motorman Trainee at Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin, IL. It was an incredible experience, and special thanks to the operating crews today for their support in guiding me through trolley operations, such as trolley poles and air brakes. I look well forward to what the future holds as I continue to learn and grow as a railroader!
