It's been a while, but I still play guitar! This is clearly not AI 😂 I learned this song on guitar in less than a week so there's a few mess ups, but I'm tired of trying to be perfect in my recordings. That's just not me.

This was my attempt at an audition for something real cool happening next month. I also love this song a lot. It makes me hopeful and a little sad. It's the contrast of wanting more and being happy with where you are, something I think I've managed until I realize I'm still lofty in my dreams. But having dreams is okay. It means you still have hope.

Hello Instagram, long time with no posts 😅

I've been rotting inside much like this song expresses. Rotting because of the state of the world, rotting because of what social media has turned into--a competitive stage for any and all to use for self-promotion and clout-chasing, rotting because of my own executive dysfunction and anxiety paralysis. But hey, at least I *can* express myself, for the time being.

The future is a sparkle
a firework feeling in my hands
that billows out and expands
to flash multicolored wants
while crackling needs

Last week, I performed at the new open mic spot at @bulatulum held on Wednesdays with the awesome host @sunraysix_! ✨️

I've been on a bit of a creative break since the holidays, but I'm ready to kick the year back off with more covers, originals, and more zest for the stage! Always improving and growing and hopefully inspiring as I know I'm inspired.

This was the first cover I did at @mozartscoffee of one of my favorite songs, "Better Girl" by indie duo Best Coast ✨️

I wrote the lyrics for "Crush" back in 2013 and used to jam with a friend often who actually came up with the riff for this song. I never felt I played it as well as he did, though, so I have modified a couple of things over the years to make it more my own.

This song was written about a crush, of course 💟

During what ended up being the last open mic at @mozartscoffee, I debuted another original song and honestly, I was dissatisfied with my performance despite the applause. I didn't feel my vocals were on point, and the chilly air coupled with my frayed nerves once I got on stage accelerated my fingers to play faster than I wanted, so it didn't sound as clean. I shot for perfection and fell short of my own expectations.

I am my own worst critic. But that's life as an artist, as a creator. And it all feeds into the growth that will only improve my skills over time. Nobody starts off being perfect. Performing in front of a crowd of people is not easy for many, and leaving the imposter syndrome off the stage can be just as difficult.

All that to say, I gave it another shot when I got back to the comfort of my own home. Here's the intro of my song "Crush."

Another clip from my first double debut at @mozartscoffee! ✨️

I've been doing open mics for a month now, and I honestly didn't see myself doing more than one or two a month, but I've been consistently showing up every week to connect, express, and support. Showing up for myself has been the biggest challenge in many aspects of my life, but it has only been easier with the sense of community I have found with others doing the same things I aspire to do 💛

When I wrote this song back in 2013, connection was all I wanted. It's one of my main driving forces in life. Expression is another. I couldn't be more ecstatic to have achieved both through music.

I'll be back tonight and next Tuesday for the last open mics at Mozart's! Come out while you can :)
