Robert Elfgen’s “utopisch” at Sprüth Magers constructs an immersive world suspended between mythology, ecology, and spiritual atmosphere. Across sculpture, assemblage, painting, and light-based installation, the exhibition explores humanity’s relationship to nature through poetic and symbolic forms.

Elfgen’s works feel less like discrete objects than fragments of a larger cosmology. Weathered materials, translucent surfaces, and organic motifs create environments that oscillate between ruin and revelation, where perception itself becomes unstable. Transparency functions not only physically, but metaphysically—suggesting unseen forces, memory, and spiritual resonance embedded within matter.

Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, utopisch approaches myth as atmosphere and ultimately frames the natural world as a site of contemplation and metaphysical encounter.
