I usually remind my clients that a room isn’t really done just because the furniture shows up. It actually comes together when you start making memories in it.

Think about those books you’ve read a couple of times. Or that unique piece you couldn’t get out of your head until you finally grabbed it. Perhaps you hang a piece of art that may feel out of place, just for fun.

That’s when the space truly starts to feel like home. by @robertpassal

For those who are not familiar with me or my work. Let me reintroduce myself.
I’m Robert Passal, and for more than 25 years I’ve been creating homes that feel deeply personal and thoughtfully composed. I founded my firm here in New York in 2000, and since then my team and I have designed residences across the city and beyond, each one tailored to the people who live there.

My approach centers on layering bespoke craftsmanship with a timeless yet current sensibility: considered proportions, rich textures, curated pieces with provenance, and details that slowly reveal themselves and, reward a second look. I’m proud that our work has been published in just about every shelter magazine on the market as well as in fifteen notable books. But what matters most is how a home lives on once we’re done. A well-designed interior doesn’t just photograph beautifully. It adds real, lasting financial value, makes everyday life easier, and develops a richer patina with time. Approaching the week with zest!
Here’s to a fresh start…. by @robertpassal

Personalized homes aren’t a trend. They’re timeless.
A home should tell your story: your family, your history, the things you love. Trends come and go on social media. Don’t let the algorithm decide for you. by @robertpassal

A home should never be decorated. It should be composed.
After 25 years of designing homes in New York and around the world, I’ve learned that the real value of a designer isn’t found in the pieces we choose. It’s in the thousands of decisions you’ll never have to think about.

It’s the lamp placed exactly where you reach for a book at night. It’s the sofa depth that makes a Sunday afternoon feel endless. It’s the hallway that catches morning light because we moved one wall eight inches.

A seasoned designer brings: -Value. The majority of the homes we’ve designed sell for above asking price and, far beyond market value. -Vision. We see the finished room before the first sample arrives, so every choice builds toward something whole.
-Access. We have trade relationships, artisans, and one-of-a-kind finds that never reach a showroom floor.
-Protection. We catch the costly mistakes before they happen: the wrong scale, the wrong finish, the order that arrives in twelve weeks instead of four.
-Longevity. We create rooms that age with grace and hold their value, rather than chasing a trend that fades in a season.

The best compliment I ever received wasn’t about a fabric or a finish. A client told me, “I don’t know what you did, but I’m happier coming home.”

From there, the journey only deepened. My former kitchen was lacquered in Farrow & Ball Pelt, in high gloss, a purple so dark it reads almost black until the light hits it and reveals that rich aubergine soul. Moody, glamorous, and endlessly surprising. I still think about that room.

Purple is the most misunderstood color in design. Pale, it soothes. Deep, it seduces. Either way, it has depth that few colors can match.

Would you live with purple? Lavender whisper or aubergine drama? Tell me below. by @robertpassal

Creating children’s rooms is always a delightful experience. We aim to design room that children can grow up in. Perhaps some of the small goods, accessories, etc. change over time. However the core of the space and the furnishings are something to cherish for a lifetime. by @robertpassal

A good designer can help you plan and execute the way you would like to live in your home. A good designer will learn as much is possible about their clients, their lifestyle, current and future plans for living in the space. This lower level space has gone from sheetrock walls to an entertainment space that works for the entire family which is inclusive of a billiards room, screening room, gym, playroom, guest room, etc. When working with a designer be clear on your personal needs, use visuals to get your ideas realized and most importantly hire a designer who you’d spend time with. One that you click with. You’ll be spending a lot of time together. The client who we developed this home for has been with us for seventeen years now. They’re no longer clients. They’re family. by @robertpassal
