Happy May 17! Thank you to Unni for the loan of her bunad! Right after WW2 My grandmother immigrated to the US as a teenager with her parents and brother and went on to marry a Texan and have one son and only one grandchild. Sadly both my grandparents died in a plane crash when my dad was child and he passed when I was young and we all lost touch. After years of of pre-social media searching, I finally made contact and started visiting Norway where I found baby pictures my dad had sent of me in a photo album. I’m so deeply grateful to everyone for being so welcoming.Slide 2, is Malfrid/Irene with her parents Edward & Jenny and her little American son. Malfrid was known to have born with natural elegance as you can see from the casually knotted pearl necklace in slide 3. She lives as Irene in the US, and seemed to have let the administrative error of noting her July 5 birthday as May 7 continue as part of her new identity.My love to everyone in Bergen 💗Sotra💗Renså And everywhere in between Special mention to Djengis, king of cats and my cat Bertie who loved brunost.Also Saetre was the family name.& could epigenetics explain my lifelong obsession with berries ? Need to come back soon and get more photos with Anita & Marit’s families and Bodil & Erling. by @robertsonmariah

Hey, I’m looking for a publishing partner for a project very dear to me, and I’m treating Instagram a little bit like a dating app for work. I recently applied to the Hasselblad Foundation Photo Book Grant, among others, knock on wood. The project is resolved, and I’d love to find the right artist-centered partner to bring it into the world.The story is a little winding. I took the source images at Hanauma Bay in 2003 and 2010, made a series of experimental chemistry prints from them, and put them into storage, pulling them out again for the first time in over a decade in 2021 during the pandemic for high res documentation. Looking at them as a group, I started thinking about them as a book, specifically a book whose materiality (oversized, roughly 12 by 15 inches, translucent vellum pages) would let the images bleed and interact across the spread.As a child and as a young adult, I was part of the waves of tourism that contributed to the reef’s strain. The pandemic closure of the bay allowed the reef and surrounding life to recover, and the stewardship and access structure was permanently reshaped in the aftermath. I happened to be digging these prints back up during exactly that window.
