What happens if this goes right?

In business and life we’re quick to ask “What happens if this goes wrong?”

We protect our downside. And that’s a good idea. But I don’t think it’s the most important question.

Asking “What happens if this goes right?” prompts you to prepare for success.

Because there’s a special kind of pain in having an opportunity you’ve dreamed of land in your hands and realizing you weren’t ready for it.

I know because I’ve been there. Not asking that question has caused me a lot of unnecessary pain.

This was one of six lessons I shared from my decade building @outwaysocks into Canada’s #1 independent sock brand during my keynote at the @startupcanada Tour in Victoria, BC.

Getting on stage in front of 300+ people to share my journey was exciting and nerve racking. Memorizing and delivering a 30 minute talk was a new muscle to flex.

Huge thanks to the Startup Canada team for the opportunity, and to everyone who came out and shared such kind feedback. taken in Victoria, British Columbia by @robfraser_

Ten years ago today, on September 4th, 2016, a little idea began.

The idea was simple: create a high-performance sock that athletes of every level could benefit from, and pair it with original designs that gave people a way to express themselves and the journeys they were on.

What started in the basement suite of a college student has grown into something we never could have imagined.

And it’s because of you.

The people who wore the socks. Shared them with friends. Repped us when you didn’t have to. Believed in us, supported us, and became part of the journey.

We see you. We remember you. And we’re so grateful for you.

Every pair of Outways out there is a little reminder to keep showing up, keep moving forward, and always chase your personal best.

Ten years later, we’re incredibly humbled by how far we’ve come, and somehow, even more excited for what’s ahead.

10 years ago today, I started @outwaysocks with no money, no experience, and no plan.

I thought building a business would be about getting things right.

Turns out, it’s mostly about getting things wrong, learning, adapting, and finding the resilience to keep going.

And that’s where you develop the skills, judgement, relationships, scars, and lessons that only come from doing something hard for a long time.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey. The team who believed, the customers who showed up, the partners who helped along the way, and the friends and family who stuck around through all of it.

I wouldn’t be here without you.

Doing it for the plot 🪵

Walked away with 3rd place at the inaugural Red Bull Log Drivers event in Victoria. 🥉

Out of 128 competitors, 64 advanced based on qualifying times. I qualified, then battled through the Rounds of 64, 32, 16, and 8 before making the final and finishing on the podium.

More than anything, I was reminded how much I love and miss competing. Being surrounded by athletes, chasing a result, and putting yourself in situations where the outcome is uncertain is a feeling that’s hard to replace.

Huge shoutout to @redbullcanada for putting on such a unique event, and @outwaysocks for the dope socks. Hope it comes back next year. 📷 @nataliecarriere by @robfraser_

Ten years ago, I started @outwaysocks while I was a student at Camosun College, taking a chance on an idea and using part of my student loan to get it off the ground.

For the past six years, I’ve funded an annual award at Camosun for students who demonstrate entrepreneurial drive. My hope is that it gives each recipient the confidence and support to take a chance on their own future, just as I once did.

Congratulations to this year’s recipient, Brayden! I hope this award helps you take the next step toward building something great. Looking forward to seeing where your journey takes you. taken in Camosun College by @robfraser_

Proud to make @outwaysocks annual donation to @bccancerfdn, bringing our three-year total to $85K.

The work they support continues to inspire me. From innovative research to life changing advances like their @conconifamilyfoundation immunotherapy lab, they are pushing solutions to some of the toughest challenges in cancer care.

Grateful to play a small part. Looking forward to doing even more in 2026. taken in Royal Jubilee Hospital by @robfraser_
