\\ Bass Comparison : Fender Jazz Bass Ultra II and Ultra 🌟 I've been asked quite a few times how the Fender Jazz Bass Ultra II compares to the Ultra. Here is my take ! 😉 The American Ultra is the third generation of modern Fender high-end basses, coming after the American Elite (2016-2020) and American Deluxe (2010-2015) which is the model I mainly play. Although the Ultra is quite similar to the Elite and Deluxe (except a few minor details), the Ultra II brings some significant improvements and innovations to the Fender Jazz Bass. Neck : The Ultra II has a maple quarter sawn neck which is mainly a Custom Shop option and premium quality feature allowing more consistency in the high quality standard of the neck production. Ebony fretboard also tend to be very solid and produce a slightly warmer tone than rosewood or maple and has very wide tonal possibilities. As always the 10"-14" compound radius and tapered neck heel are one of my favorite features, allowing unparalleled access to the higher register. Those are by far the fastest and easiest necks to play while remaining perfectly balanced, strong and stable with no dead spots. Cool detail about the Ultra II is the Luminlay side dots, pretty useful when you are in total darkness on stage and barely see your neck. Electronics : The Ultra II is fitted with a set of specially designed Ultra II noiseless Vintage Jazz Bass pickups, and I quickly felt a difference. While I was feeling the Ultra as a bit cold and dry, the Ultra II was very warm, with wide tonal possibilities and something I actually would like to work with. The Preamp has been redesigned and a switchable midrange frequency option has been added. I've been happily surprised by how the Ultra II preamp feels and how different it sounds from the Ultra. The passive sound is also excellent and sounds as a "real vintage passive" as well, not just an option when you are running low on battery. Huge improvement on both passive and active to me.
