I’m so excited to finally share this commission that I’ve been working on the past few months! 👏🏻👏🏻Commissioned portraits are challenging and require many, many hours of labor, but are worth it all when finally unveiled! It was so fun to present this portrait which was a surprise to the bride’s husband and family.

I love painting bridal portraits and diving into all the details of the beautiful dress and veil!👰🏼‍♀️Haley’s husband had her ring specially designed with crosses made out of diamonds on each side. She was such a lovely bride and I am honored to have been a part of creating such a precious heirloom. Thank you!💛

(A few things things have changed for Haley in the last few months!🤣🤣 👶🏻👩‍🍼🍼Congratulations!!)

Day 2 of @toddmcasey #mastersketch26 Challenge. Today’s choice was a study of Lord Frederick Leighton’s “Lily” (Oil,11x14, third pic). Mine’s a tiny reproduction at 5x7” (Oil). I’ve always loved Lord Leighton’s work and especially this beautiful classic portrait.

This painting is onstage at the ballet “The Sleeping Beauty” when Princess Aurora turns 16, and has the curse of sleep placed upon her. And of course we know the end of the story…true love’s kiss awakens her!

Thank you to the lovely @eva_balerina, an artist with the @houstonballet , for the inspiration! You’re the best!

Behind the scenes…..
I usually start with an underpainting in Burnt Umber, but for this one I just jumped right in with color after a charcoal sketch. I was anxious to paint those luscious colors!! Enjoy!
