SUNDAY NEWS: BROW TRENDS. Soft Brows.

This is truly just natural classic brow styling. Which has always been my core philosophy. However, we have gotten so far away from that with microblading and lamination that it’s now circling back as a trend. Let’s talk about those two things, and the evolution back to soft brows.

Microblading is a permanent treatment procedure that a trained brow artist does by creating tiny little hair like micro cuts in your brow, then applying ink. Which is an Art. It was often talked about in the media as semi-permanent and something that fades, which I want to clarify for anybody that is interested, it will fade, but it is permanent. Many artists are now turning to Nano Brows which is very similar to Microblading, but the hair strokes are done with a finer needle for a more natural softer effect.

Brow lamination is the use of a perming solution to straighten your brows so that when you brush them up, they look fuller and more styled. This is a treatment that is perfect for people with coarse, curly or unruly brows. The look is bold and dramatic, but often looked too done and too perfect. That’s where the Korean Brow Lift comes in. Which has less chemicals so is healthier for your brows, and has more of a natural finish.

Then we have the laminated look with clear brow wax. Usually applied from a pot with a brow spoolie brush with a paddle on the other end. Yes. A paddle. One of the reasons I created my Cult Brow Mega Hold was to shift away from this look and offer something more natural and wearable. The potted wax, glue, or freeze has its place. It’s very editorial and visual and I am quite into the art of it. But for the average person desiring an every day natural look, a strong pliable brow gel is a more fresh modern option.

So in short, Soft Brows are trending. And we’re choosing clear brow gels over potted waxes, Korean brow lifts over lamination, and Nano Brows over microblading. And the result is chic, undone, effortless brows.

SUNDAY NEWS: BROW TRENDS. Color Coded Brows.

Do you ever feel like doing something disruptive with your look? We all can get really stuck in our style and beauty patterns and return to what’s safe. Cutting my hair was a start of change for me and opened a gate allowing my style to evolve. I’ve always loved vivid colored hairstyles like pinks, rose-gold and magenta, but for me doesn’t feel quite right at this point in my life. So I decided I could achieve a desired feel more subtly, and play with color in my brows. I love the burgundy with my dark hair and it was so easy to achieve. They are not permanent right now this is a richly pigmented tinted brow gel. And I am madly in fkn love. If you feel like disrupting your look, but are not ready to commit to something to more permanent, you must give this a try!

SUNDAY NEWS: BROW TRENDS. Eyebrow Slits. This is a brow style that’s really starting to regain popularity. But not so much that it’s oversaturated, or trendy. Because cool girls, are anything but trendy. They rebel. And they don’t follow trends. They start them. It’s very individual, and very street style. Let’s be honest. They’re hot. I wanna hate them. But I don’t. I love them. Let’s be additionally honest. I’ve never done it to myself, or anyone else. But I want to. So in my research and professional opinion, here’s how it’s done.

Eyebrow slits can be done either vertically or at an angle. I personally like an angle style I think it lays really beautifully with the contour of the brow. You will need a pair of precision pointed brow scissors, and an eyebrow razor or dermablade tool. You can also use a white brow mapping pencil if you want to be extra careful with the placement of the brow cut slit. Find the area that you want to make the slit, and place the pointed scissors under the brow close to the skin along the line that you want to create. And cut. It’s so much simpler than you think. There will be brow hairs left behind. Rather than tweeze them, use an eyebrow razor to clean up any hairs in the pathway of the cut. Once you’ve done this brush your brows up and see if there are any extra long hairs that you want to trim down to complement the look. And fill them in. You may even like to fill them in more than usual to highlight the slit. And there you have it. You’re a sexy bitch.

BROW STYLING 101: BRUSHING

Brushing your brows properly when filling them in is key. Most brow pencils have a spoolie at the end of them that you can use to style while filling them in, and use to blend them out. You can also use a separate brow artist brush if you prefer.

Step 1. Brush brows up to see where you have little spaces or holes under your brows and fill them in. You do not need to do a full line of pencil from the beginning of the brow to the end. For the most natural look just lightly fill in where you see sparseness and skin to create a powdery effect. Then brush and blend.

Step 2. Brush your brows down. People forget about this step, and it can be important depending on the natural shape of your brow. Some people have little divots above their brow on either side side of their arch. Brush your brows down, and fill this in with more of a light line of pencil, to create shape and help support the arch. Then brush and blend.

Step 3. This last step isn’t necessary if you like to keep the beginning of your brows extra natural. For those of you that need it fill the beginning of your brow by drawing a very light vertical line to create a starting point of your inner brow, then draw a very light line under the beginning of your brow to ground them. You can then fill in any light spaces then thoroughly brush this area. Blending is most important here to give it the most natural look. Whereas throughout the rest of the brow it’s ok for the pencil to have a little more color impact.

Step 4. Do a final brush and blend throughout the entire brow to blur out the pencil. And follow with a clear brow gel like CULT BROW SOFT HOLD @levansbeauty
