on august 6th 2021, i sat atop my roof in brooklyn and watched the sun set directly behind the base of the one world trade tower. i’d been making photographs - as if they were portraits of the building - all summer, spending as many evenings as possible soaking up the sun with my camera on-hand, in the hopes that just maybe, the conditions would align for a special moment just like this—and on one of the few days of the year this could happen, it did. the rays refracted through the center of the building, setting aglow each floor of the tower, creating a mammoth cascading array of striped red and orange light along the horizon as i snapped away with my camera. the next day, i rushed off to another job and accidentally formatted my memory card and permanently deleted those images. so here are some of the other shots from not-august-6th, 2021. an exercise in diligence by @robintakami

U.S. Congressman Max Rose (@maxrose4ny) walking to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal during sunrise to greet constituents on February 8th. His 2018 election to the US House of Representatives flipped the right-leaning district (NY-11) to blue for only the second time since 1980. Rep. Rose’s advocacy helped organize the first drive-through COVID-19 testing station in New York City. He has recently returned to his congressional post after a two week deployment as a captain in the Army National Guard, during which he helped set up an emergency hospital for patients with coronavirus. Thank you Max, @dques, and the Rose campaign for the work you’re doing and for having me on. Vote. taken in Staten Island, New York by @robintakami
