Dahlia season is in full bloom! I would have been more than happy to be shooting for my book during Peony season, but I was absolutely thrilled that the shoots took place around this time last year when Dahlias were in their prime. These beauties graced the pages of STYLING BEYOND INSTAGRAM along with many other of my favorite flowers and plants, because no shoot is complete without the colors and beauty of nature's props.That's just my opinion, but I bet many of you will agree! Fyi: I always have my flower styling kit (clippers, binding wire, floral tape, chicken wire, ribbons) with me as part of my overall kit. . There's a floral theme throughout my book, STYLING BEYOND INSTAGRAM because flowers appear everywhere in my prop styling work, whether it's a cosmetics, food, lifestyle and especially a tabletop shoot. Flowers bring me great joy in any project I'm working on, doesn't matter if they're real, dried or printed as long as they're the right choice for the shot. I've had these Botanical prints for a while and thought they would make a great floral backdrop for these gorgeous ceramic dishes by @lookslikewhite and handmade flower by @denisefasanello Implied flowers are just as beautiful as real flowers if you ask me. If there's one thing that can brighten my world, it's a beautiful flower. When I spot a new variety, a new color, or a shape I've never seen before, I get excited. A kind woman gave me a stem of Nigella the other day. She knew I would appreciate it. Thank goodness for flowers. There's still space in my class next Sunday, July 12th, STYLING FLOWERS FOR PHOTOGRAPHY online at @nybg . We'll not only talk about designing sets in your home spaces to show off your floral arrangements, but also using petals and stems to decorate your tables and placesettings. . I have been absent for a while. I'm still here but going through a rough time. My life is in a state of flux so it's been hard to show up and be all bubbly and happy when that's not who I am at the moment. I don't want to go into it here, but I'm happy to chat privately with anyone who cares. . I am struggling to keep working and use my creativity as medicine. I have private 1:1 students as always and I have the STYLING FLOWERS FOR PHOTOGRAPHY class through @nybg on July 12th. I hope you'll join me. I'm speaking at @fitnyc tonight and I have plans for some exciting things in September and beyond. Including my full semester Still Life & Product Styling class @fitnyc . I know we all have our challenges. I'm not the only one. My real life friends and family have been there for me. I had a great visit from Esther of @calltogather yesterday to talk about her cohort of in person creative artist workshops and how we might collaborate. Whenever a new guest comes by, I love to see their view of what's inside my studio. There's always an assortment of products from recent shoots and mood board type assemblages that are ever evolving. And the view of downtown is amazing!! Esther, thanks for the chat and brainstorming sesh. I'm at a crossroads in my life and @fitnyc is over for the summer so I need to keep the creative magic alive. It was a perfect time to partipate in @threeharborsgardenclub annual luncheon as their keynote speaker. I came home with these gorgeous homegrown blooms from @flowers_simplified & @fiddlers.farm right before Mother's Day. It was an amazing day! Everyone came together to celebrate the beauty that nature provides us with but maybe capturing them was the one missing piece in their practice. I got to share my take on composing, designing sets, using props, natural daylight and more to create compelling floral photos that inspire and connect with viewers. .
