Sakura Hanami in Rome: The Japanese Walk at the Lake
April 2, 2026
The Japanese Walk (Passeggiata del Giappone) in Rome runs along the artificial lake in the EUR district.
In 1959, the city of Tokyo gifted Rome 2,500 sakura (cherry trees), which were planted here along the lakeside. Unfortunately, many of the original trees are no longer there, though new ones have been planted over the years to replace them.
Currently, due to bad weather, the blooming is uneven: some cherry trees have yet to blossom, while others have already lost their petals because of the wind and rain.
