Science is better when is shared.

During the European Researchers’ Night 2026, the RoboPhysics Laboratory opened a window into its research, bringing robotics, experimentation and innovation closer to the public.

An opportunity to turn research into dialogue: to explore ideas, discover technologies, ask questions and experience firsthand how curiosity can become scientific progress.

Meeting people outside the laboratory also means creating new connections between research and society, inspiring curiosity today and, perhaps, the researchers of tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their enthusiasm, questions and curiosity.

See you at the next one. 🤖✨

Forget the robots you know. 🤖✨

No gears, no motors, no noise. Just fibres as thin as spaghetti that contract like a real muscle, and a "suction cup" that grips almost anything with a tiny electric charge.

On Friday 25 September, the RoboPhysics Laboratory of @politecnicodibari hits the streets for the European Researchers' Night 2026, together with @omnigrasp_srl , the spin-off born from our research.

We're bringing two of our most advanced research lines with us:

🧬 Electrofluidic fibre artificial muscles, just 2 mm thick, they work in pairs like biceps and triceps and, bundled together, lift 200 times their own weight. For the first time, an artificial muscle matches human muscles in force, contraction and speed.

🖐️ Electroadhesive gripping: a surface that sticks to objects of any shape and lifts them gently. No pumps, no compressors.

From rehabilitation to exoskeletons to tomorrow's humanoids: come and see first-hand where robotics is heading.

📍 Bari, Piazza Umberto I
🗓️ Friday 25.09
⏰ 15.00-22.00
Free entry. See you there!

🇯🇵 🇮🇹 Japan meets Italy at RPL

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Masahiro Nakade, First Secretary and Science & Technology Attaché at the Embassy of Japan in Italy, to our laboratory at the Politecnico di Bari.

During the visit, we had the opportunity to present our research activities, technologies and ongoing projects, sharing ideas and perspectives on the future of innovation.

His interest in our work made the meeting a valuable opportunity for dialogue and exchange, opening the door to potential connections between research, technology and international collaboration.

We are always glad to welcome people who share our curiosity about what research can make possible.

🇯🇵🤝🇮🇹

Da Bari al Giappone. E sul gradino più alto del podio. 🇯🇵

Vito Cacucciolo.

🇬🇧 From Bari to Japan. And to the top step of the podium. 🇯🇵

Students from the Politecnico di Bari’s RoboPhysics Laboratory have taken first place at the RoboSoft Grasping Competition 2026 in Kanazawa.

The challenge: collect 14 lamps using a robotic system without damaging them. The Poliba team collected all 14, scoring 238 out of 264 points and beating teams from around the world.

The result grew out of a project developed as part of the Mechatronics Engineering degree course, later developed through thesis work and taken to competition with the support of Omnigrasp, a Politecnico di Bari spin-off.

The winning Poliba team: Elisabetta Annese, Luca Mitaritonna and Giuseppe Macchia, guided by Eng. Angelo Catalano and Prof. Vito Cacucciolo.

🦾How to design robots and automatic machines through robotic physics?
👉 Prof. Vito Cacucciolo had a lecture at the DAUSY PhD Summer School, organized at Politecnico di Bari by Prof. Dotoli and Prof. Carli. Valuable chance to connect the soft actuators and soft robotics worlds with automation science and engineering. Thanks to the organizers and all the PhD students who attended!

🎓 Ultraflexible Electronics for Soft Robot Applications

This morning, at Politecnico di Bari, we had the honor of hosting a seminar by Prof. Kenjiro Fukuda from Osaka University, invited by Prof. Vito Cacucciolo.

🦾 Can you imagine an electric circuit so thin that it can be tattooed on a human hand?
During the seminar, Prof. Fukuda presented his research on materials and fabrication technologies for micrometer-thick, flexible electronics, with applications ranging from soft robotics and solar cells to wearable and biomedical devices.

An exceptional opportunity for international scientific exchange, strengthening connections between leading research communities and opening new perspectives for collaboration between our RoboPhysics lab at Politecnico di Bari and Osaka University in Japan.

📢 There is open opportunities for fully-funded research visiting for students and young researchers, funded by a JST-ASPIRE program.

Sometimes we need to step back from the everyday and look at things from a different perspective to understand who we are and where we want to go.

For two days, we left the lab, our robots, and our routines behind and headed toward the Pollino National Park.

Two intense days, lived to the fullest: we reflected on the future of our lab, the meaning of science, threw ourselves into the rapids while rafting, and hiked through breathtaking gorges, surrounded by wild nature.

An unusual setting for a science lab? Maybe. But that is exactly who we are: unconventional.

There, away from our desks and closer to one another, we strengthened our bonds and set concrete goals to shape who we want to be and the impact we aim to have on robotics, science, society.
