Sunny Morning

So far, this year has been a long and rough road. It started with a bit of hope, like waking up to sunlight that feels too bright for how you really feel. I thought maybe this time things would be different, that I’d find peace, purpose, and control. But as the months went by, I realized the light was only pretending; behind it were long, tiring days.

It’s been almost a year of quiet battles, the kind you can’t post about, or even talk about. Some days I’d wake up with a trace of hope, a small smile that felt like a promise, and by nightfall, it would dissolve into that familiar heaviness. It’s strange how easily temporary smiles can drift into almost permanent sadness.

There were days I didn’t know who I was anymore when my silence spoke louder than my words, and joy felt far away, like something I could only remember, not feel. I’ve replayed so many moments, wishing I could go back, fix what went wrong, and make the endings softer. I wish I could try again to do things differently, to choose myself earlier, to love with more courage, and to let go with more peace.

Somewhere between trying and failing, holding on and letting go, I found a quote that said, “Until death, every defeat is psychological.” It stuck with me. It made me stop for a moment because it felt like someone had described exactly what I’ve been going through, that quiet fight between what hurts and what I still hope for. Maybe I’ve lost people, things, and chances. Maybe I’ve been hurt more than I’ve healed. But if I’m still here, still breathing, still hoping for better days, then maybe those defeats aren’t really the end.

Still, despite it all, there’s this stubborn part of me that wakes up each morning and steps into the light again, hesitant but present. Maybe that’s what survival really is; showing up even when it doesn’t feel worth it. Maybe “sunny morning” isn’t about the weather or the mood, but about the quiet decision to keep believing that the light will come back, even if it takes its time.

So yes, this year has been rough, not in ways people can see, but in the quiet unraveling of someone trying to stay whole... by @robothea_d
