Four years ago at Mont-Sainte-Anne, this pile of broken chainrings told a story. The track was brutal, and despite taking the win, it highlighted one of the biggest challenges we were seeing on downhill bikes.I was fortunate to be involved during the early R&D and prototype phases of the new Demo platform. Seeing the team explore solutions—including the High Gear drivetrain concept—was an incredible experience.Today, watching Finn Iles win his second World Cup on the new bike makes this photo mean something completely different. What was once a pile of failures became part of the motivation to build something better.Racing validates ideas in ways the lab never can. A muddy bike is a beautiful thing when nothing's broken.Pretty cool to see Finn take his second World Cup win on a bike that traces back to the concept and prototyping work we did years ago at Specialized. I had the opportunity to work on the early demo and high-gear development, including pushing for additional chainring clearance after being in the pits with Finn and his broken drivetrain at MSA when he won his first WC.In Leogang, that extra clearance meant one less thing to worry about when conditions get ugly. Excited to see the new Specialized Levo X Rack officially launch today.I had the opportunity to contribute to the prototype development, helping bring the design from concept into physical hardware. From screen to shop floor.The first set of bonding fixtures for our lugged bicycle frame prototype is now off the printer and on the fixture table. These fixtures locate the critical pivot points and tube geometry during assembly, helping ensure alignment throughout the bonding process.Every fixture is designed around a modular 5/8" hole pattern, allowing quick adjustments as the prototype evolves and making it easy to adapt for future frame sizes and configurations.Next step: finish pivot locations (secret), ST fixture, validating fit-up, checking alignment, and preparing for the first bonded frame assembly.The details matter. From CAD to reality.Today we're printing the fixture components that will be used to assemble and bond the first prototype front triangle for our lugged aluminum/carbon mountain bike frame.The fixture system is designed around a precision welding table and includes dedicated mounts for the bottom bracket and head tube to accurately locate every frame member during assembly.
