I hope this brightens up a gloomy chilly morning. I shot as much film of Dillinger and Libby from Maggie Agency as they could shovel into the freight elevator. Everything they did seemed perfect for a ring light on an 80mm Hasselblad. The twin towers. by @robvanpetten

Pat Metheny had called me about shooting a record jacket shot for a new album, "As falls Wichita, so falls Wichita Falls. September 1980. A great collection put together mostly by Pat and Lysle Mays. A witty play on words and so began my dialogue with Pat Metheny. We talked about guitars, guitar players, Berklee, the new beginnings of digital recording, enjoyed a string of shows and photo shoots.
This is a favorite shot, hand oil painted by Patti Roberts. @pattilou222 by @robvanpetten

This is me teaching lighting in the dark with model Niki Morris @dmorris4475- shot by Steven C. Borack. Talking with your hands is less effective in the dark. by @robvanpetten

There's a cartoon quality to some of my favorite shots. Maybe it's that dealing with the insults of reality makes for side trips to the absurd. Some people make wars, and some people make whimsical pictures and try to tell amusing stories. by @robvanpetten

As many models, actors, musicians and athletes as I've photographed over the years, Gigi has to be one of the more unique cover shots. She seemed to be preoccupied. Maybe distracted. She insisted on doing her own hair and make-up. At one point as my Dynalite beauty dish was flashing, she picked up a tree branch and whipped it at the light shattering it to bits. Never had a model do that before. Normally I get a pretty receptive response from a subject. Maybe it was the nature of the story. What was amusing 30 years ago lands differently now. by @robvanpetten

Those were the days,
with Josefina Gallego-Diaz,
and Anthony Crane in her gaze—
maybe in a daze…
I went through a phase
of High-Speed Ektachrome.
It was a craze.
Now, years in the haze,
I rummage through the maze,
looking for pictures
that might still amaze.
Or at least…
amuse you. Now it's your turn to write the next verse. by @robvanpetten

This is a more cosmetic Near Future Shot of Allie Cabal @allie.cabal. She hit so many great moments in this shoot it should be a major motion picture.

The shoulder pads and big hair say 80's right away. Josephina Gallego-Diaz was on Elle, Bazaar and Maxi Magazine covers and catalogs and editorials everywhere I looked. I had a few great opportunities to work with her. This was a shot for Keith Lane. I had walked into this bank just to look at these palacial torches on either side of the door.
Keith described the shot and the bank agreed to let me shoot here in the doorway. This was a one spot light shot. When Josephina tipped the chair the flow all pointed to her shoes.
She knew what to do. It took us minutes. It took us somewhere. by @robvanpetten

Molly Fitch and I worked together regularly. She was part of the Molly, Marie, Marni Trilogy of Talent from the Maggie Agency in the Bob's Stores advertising, "Good Friends Wear Well." It was a campaign that lasted over ten years. All that regular camaraderie lead to jobs in Boston, NYC, Miami, LA,
Mexico, Puerto Rico among many others. On January 13, 1986 she was voted Ford Model's Super Model of the year as the official U.S. contestant in Ford Models’ inaugural Supermodel of the World international broadcast. . She stayed strong and athletic. The laughs were just as loud, the energy never faded. This was shot during a bathing suit shoot in Antigua. She was shooting back. Today would have been her birthday.
That was Miss Molly, and I do sadly miss Molly. by @robvanpetten

I know this was Amy Looker's dog, and shot in front of her house, so I'm concluding that Amy Looker was the stylist. It was for the Fashion of the Globe and a Claude Montana jacket. Everything else has dissolved in brain cells gone by. Part of posting is seeing if anyone else can remember. This dog loved me. Would not take her eyes off me. These are the significant details. I very much enjoyed working with this model and I'm sure she went on to do monumental things. Not to detract from the dog... by @robvanpetten

It was the day that Barbara Peacock @barbara.peacock_photo brough Anna for a visit. Things began to happen automatically. Kathy Benharris put it all together, Noel McKinnon always gets the make-up perfect. Time is measured in 1/250 of a second. by @robvanpetten

This was for Kodak Ektachrome 100. Dina from the Maggie Agency @_maggieinc.
Whatever soundtrack was playing in the studio deserved a credit.
It's funny—I enjoy these photographs more today than when I made them. Deadlines and delivery have a way of killing the mood.
I've never wanted to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. I'd much rather convince a model's hair that it already has. by @robvanpetten
