“The real big ones are always an adventure”.Oh boy, will this one will stick with me. After my hair has turned gray and my bones ache, I will remember this fish and the battle we had. My new PB Northern Largemouth on artificial. Nobody there to lend a helping hand when the worst case scenario became reality- just me and her. Head to head, win or loss, no ties- no draws. And I managed to overcome adversity in time to land her. Every time I almost had the reel back on she’d rip it out of my hands again. PB Trout on the Glide! She looked like she was pushing over-slot status, so she was set free to let breed. Hell of a nice surprise on 80 lb leader and an incoming tide, also the first fish on my newly learned FG knot. First Blacktip Shark I’ve managed to corral in my Surfcasting Career. Taken on a 10th Anniversary Edition ODM Jigster- this beast smoked my new 9” spook from @personalbestlures on the 2nd cast of the session. I spotted this fish blowing up bait on the waters edge as I walked up to my spot- so I threw the spook and splashed it a couple times and dropped into a straight, slow, retrieve after a long cast. About halfway through my retrieve he dove on the plug from behind, pulled some drag, surfaced and thrashed around, and even went almost completely airborne trying to throw the hooks at one point. I buckled down on my drag, put some serious heat on him, and managed to land this fish in roughly 6 minutes flat. Grateful to God, the #HDFC fellas, Matt at Personal Best Lures, the kind lady who took a few pictures of me, and the other nice woman who went and fetched my backpack for me that contained my de-hooking tools. Recently some friends and other anglers have asked me why I haven’t posted as much content this year/season, and this here is why! There’s been nothing to post! .These fish have been working me. That’s just the reality of fishing and fishing content, “it’s fishing- not catching”. And I’m not going to spam old catches or post dinks from the pond up the road to keep pushing out content. Targeting/recording Snakehead, Peacocks, Clowns, and Bass just isn’t doing it for me at this point. I’m in search of big game fish. Something rarer, harder to track, harder to bring to heel… Something that keeps me up at night, and keeps me chasing the moment. As with anyone, my saltwater game is a constant work in progress. Been battling injuries, honing/testing knot-tying technique, skunking out, and occasionally just getting beat by the fish that I do hook. But fear not! It’s far from the end of my angling-content, and far from the end of my angling career. Handful of pictures from my trips over to Naples to see my wonderful grandparents this year. Bubba said this is the first song he ever remembers hearing. We laughed at H.L. Mencken articles, and joked with Grammy about impending “bomb-cyclone-storms” up north. We sang along with Hank Williams and Willie Nelson. We went out to eat, and attended Mass together. Bubba baked, I gave him field-reports on my fishing, and we had big fun on the bayou. by @rochesmoke

PB Smallmouth on the @throwbackbaits Chikadee!! This is one I’ve kept to myself for awhile. Told the family, and a few friends (including @danreyfishin ), and then just held the moment close for a few months. It was that special of a catch to me. It was even worth losing the long time family net...In the months leading up to this- there had been a mother duck with around 10 ducklings at her back that frequented the marina. By September there were just 2 ducklings left. I was notified of this, and decided the Chikadee would be how I matched the hatch... This long, skinny, slightly deformed, West Coast Snook is my new PB. Unsure on length & weight- just wanted to get her back in the drink ASAP, as she seemed in poor health.
