🍥 star trak superstars. circa 2000.

wave creators, trendsetters and the voice of the youth.

unhappy endings aside. the star trak squad with the neptunes, NERD clipse and the one and only kelis gave us countless classics.

it was really a "you had to be there" kinda thing. i was definitely not "there" at the time per se but going back and listening to the albums, watching the interviews and mini docs and music videos and stuff you can just tell that they had all the kids all around the world in a chokehold back then.

real ones know, classics like Tasty, Lord Willin, In Search Of... i could go on fr.

like i said, you had to be there.

WE had to be there. lol. by @rocketboy.wav

she's so self-conscious.

still not over this. I remember listening to miseducation for the first time and thinking "man, a ye x lauryn collab would heal the world"

now we got this AND the song 'can't wait'. world isn't healed yet but we one step closer.

mystery of iniquity -> all falls down.

"before we walk we must crawl."

🍥temptations ~ j cole x kendrick lamar.

this old (unreleased) grail been back in rotation lately. makes me think of how far they've both come and how much they've evolved as artists. a collab between both of them now would sound very different from this.

black friday was wild. cole on the damn tour was dope. kendrick on forbidden fruit was a moment. cole shout out on the rich spirit OG version was random but fresh asf, iykyk hahah.

anyway i been trying to decide who had the better verse on here and mannn. idk. i feel like both verses carried each of their identities and energies at the time so confidently. like they were both "classic" them at the time, yk?

it's different waves so you cant really compare ig. by @rocketboy.wav

ye vs the people( ft T.I) ~ 2018

this song was released at the height of the "ye, MAGA, trump" controversy. it felt less like a song and more like a debate between two old friends( ye & tip). with tip questioning his views and giving him some honest critque and ye explaining the logic and positive intentions behind his actions.

this short doc showed how that energy was captured in real time when tip pulled up to talk to ye. not to judge like most ppl been but to understand where he's coming from. ye does his best to put his ideation into words but the two never seem to really land on the same page.

in the middle of this ye gets an epiphany it seems and plays a demo of his called "don't play with that boy" which was mostly just ye defending his actions and pitches the idea that they revamp the song and show two sides of the story.

they started recording right there in the heat of the moment.

that's the beauty of ye's work. not proving that he's right but capturing raw human emotion as honestly as possible. be it about divorce, religion, politics, depression. he tries his best to present the human experience as unfiltered as possible.

this song carries that. there's no resolution at the end. no ye agreeing with tip or vice versa. just an honest disagreement and disalignment between friends.

it happens. it is what it is. by @rocketboy.wav

"robocop in da street wit a uzi once."

this earl sweatshirt cameo is definitely a top 5 atlanta moment for me.

earl "plays" an underground rap legend named blueblood who just died and paperboi bumping his music starts hearing clues in the lyrics.

weirdly enough paper boi follows the clues and it takes on this weird journey across atlanta and eventually ends up at blueblood's funeral which had zero attendees. except for blueblood's wife who holds both admiration and a little resentment towards him for putting his craft above everything else while he was alive.

the episode was chaotic, hilarious, deep and overall very atlanta-ish. makes sense the episode was titled "the most atlanta" lol.

also we should start a petition for earl to release the songs played in this episode. this shit tuff asf. by @rocketboy.wav
