I haven’t taken the time to formally reintroduce myself since I launched the Rocket Strength brand back in March of 2023. Since then, I’ve seen significant growth and change as a coach, along with my brand, and I want to take a moment to introduce myself to those who may not know me.

My name is Jakob Hansen, and I am a powerlifting coach currently based out of Omaha, Nebraska. I have been coaching for just over four years now, after starting in late 2021. Since then, I have had the pleasure of coaching over 40 athletes across a wide range of demographics, from the local level all the way to the national stage.

I pride myself on a high-quality service structure that never deviates from one athlete to another and allows all athletes a clear and defined avenue to communicate with me, while allowing me to provide the best coaching I can. I always look to further pursue my knowledge, whether through a deep network that includes some of the brightest young minds in the coaching space, participation in formal mentorship programs, or learning from online content produced by others in the field. I am never content.

As we move into the new year, I am currently accepting clients. Regardless of your gender, age, weight class, or strength level, there is a home for you at Rocket Strength. If you would like more information on my services or to formally inquire, send me a DM or click the link in my bio! by @rocketstrengthpowerlifting

Athlete Highlights - 8/7/26

@thomasfagiano with a new triple PR for the first block post meet. 525 x 3 moving very well with some room. We’ve played around with his deadlift programming slightly after essentially finding his golden microcycle and running it over and over for both of our two preps together. Pushing some rep work, specifically 6s, after this top set. Really excited to see how far we can push his deadlift by the end of the year and into next year.

Big ATPR for @genisalwayscooked. Knee sleeve blew up on him mid rep, and he was still able to thug it out and finish the 524 x 1 PR. That wraps up the macrocycle for us. Looking to take an easy week or two before making some programming changes to all three lifts, and chasing more PRs.

@seant196 with a new rep PR of 353 x 4. I have been a big fan recently of running some sort of ascending work on the primary squat session following a meet to break up some monotony, as well as increase the average intensity of a session. Ran this setup for the first three weeks of the block, then flipped it to a traditional top set and backdown structure for week four to prioritize the top end. Worked just as well drew it up.

@rj_liftss with an ATPR match of 568 x 1. With all the travel and scheduling conflicts going on, we’ve found a lot of consistency in training. Moving into the final bloc of meet prep next week.

Meet Recap for @dom_lyfts
USAPL Cornhusker State Games

Squat: 215 / 474 lbs (+2.5 kg)
Bench: 130 kg / 287 lbs (+12.5 kg)
Deadlift: 285 kg / 628 lbs (+10 kg)
Total: 630 kg / 1389 bs (+37.5 kg)

DOTS: 412.56 (+9.25 Points)
9/9

Dominic competed earlier this month at the USAPL Cornhusker State Games, making his return to competition after two years away from the sport. This meet went pretty much as perfect as we could have asked for, going 9/9, and PR’s on all three lifts on the way to a PR total day.

After competing two years ago, Dominic and I parted ways as he stepped away from the sport to focus on alternative commitments before reaching out again, around 3 months out. This did put us on a time crunch, but given the fact that Dominic hadn’t spent much of the last two years training in a very specific manner, instead focusing on general strength and hypertrophy training. This simplified things on my end a lot, allowing us to focus on the fundamentals, cleaning up some technique related issues, and to let simple programming concepts drive adaptations. by @rocketstrengthpowerlifting

@braydon66kg makes his return to Powerlifting America this weekend in an effort to qualify for University Nationals. Braydon competes this Sunday at Powerlifting America Summer Slamdown in Massachusetts.

Prep has gone very smooth as we have continued to work to fill out 66kg. Looking forward to establishing a baseline for Braydon in this weight class as we move into the back half of the year, and working towards University Nationals. by @rocketstrengthpowerlifting

After two years way from the platform, @dom_lyfts competes this weekend at USAPL Cornhusker State Games. Dominic reached back out for coaching a few months ago after some time away from the sport, and I couldn’t wait to see what we could put together and how quickly we could get him back to all time PR territory.

Luckily, we had plenty of training data to build off of since for both of Dominic’s prior meets we teamed up for. Prep went amazing, with all three lifts coming together very nicely the past month especially. Time to put it together on meet day!

Meet Recap for @seant196
USAPL Barbell Brigade “City of Angels”

Squat: 182.5 kg / 402 lbs (+10 kg)
Bench: 122.5 kg / 270 lbs
Deadlift: 210 kg / 463 lbs
Total: 507.5 kg / 1119 bs (+10 kg)
Dots: 340.55 (+13.79 Points)
8/9

Sean recently competed at the USAPL Barbell Brigade “City of Angels” where he was able to go 7/9, and post a squat, total, and DOTS PR. While this wasn’t the super meet we were expecting based on how well training went, we are still happy we could come in, and PR his total on a day that was less than perfect. The focus moving forward is on gaining weight, making the necessary adjustments to programming and technique, and refining our meet planning so that we can bring a more polished performance to the platform for his next competition.

Special thanks to @_simonlifts_ for handling

Meet Recap for @thomasfagiano
USAPL Odyssey Barbell Classic

Squat: 262.5 kg / 579 lbs (+20 kg)
Bench: 162.5 kg / 358 lbs
Deadlift: 272.5 kg / 601 lbs (+12.5 kg)
Total: 697.5 kg / 1538 bs (+27.5 kg)
Dots: 475.11 (+20.94 Points)
8/9

Thomas competed last weekend at the USAPL Odyssey Barbell Classic, where he finished 7/9 and tacked on 27.5 kg to his total on his way to winning best lifter. Big shoutout to @glasspowerlifting for handling and making great calls on the day, as well as ensuring we made weight and recomped well after Thomas woke up a bit heavier than expected the morning of the meet. Thomas works incredibly hard in the gym, and I think that shows with the amount of progress we have made together so far. Next stop is a qualifying meet for Nationals and then Raw Nationals following that next year.

While I don’t think technique is one size fits all for anyone, I think bench CAN be a bit of an exception.

Most athletes are going to need to check a lot of the same boxes during the setup for the bench press. Things like establishing footing and leg drive early and using that leg drive to elevate the rib cage and establish neck pressure are going to be things most, if not all athletes should be doing during the setup, regardless of strength level, leverages, etc. by @rocketstrengthpowerlifting

Client Highlights - 6/26/26

@dom_lyfts - 623 x 1 Deadlift PR
Since we have started back up on program after almost a two year break from the sport, Dominic has caught a ton of momentum. Just 1x per week deadlift frequency, and we’ve been able to get him well into the 600s at this point. Hoping to pull low to mid 6s at USAPL Cornhusker State Games in July!

@braydon66kg - 290 x 1 Bench PR
This was a great way to wrap up the penultimate block of prep for Braydon. As we’ve gotten closer and closer to filling out the weight class, combined with adding a 4th day of bench in, we have found the secret sauce and bench has been on a tear because of it.

@genisalwayscooked - 584 x 1 Deadlift
Slowly chipping at rep PR’s across the past few blocks has led to this 265/584 Deadlift, which is only 2.5 kg under his all time PR. At least one more block in this macrocycle to capitalize on this momentum and secure a PR.

@rj_liftss - 562 x 1 Deadlift
Since our last meet, we have dropped RJ’s deadlift frequency for schedule constraint purposes, as well as some historical data we had that lead us to believe we could make progress in this 1x per week structure. He’s been on a tear since. Just 2.5 kg under his all time PR as a fatigued single, which he did after a PR set of 4.

@thomasfagiano makes his return to the platform this weekend at the USAPL Odyssey Barbell Classic in Salem, NH.

In our first meet together, he was able to go 9/9 with a 27.5 kg meet PR total, so the bar has been set high for this one. Prep has gone very well, putting over 30 kg to his training total in ~7 months. We are looking forward to seeing what we can this weekend! by @rocketstrengthpowerlifting

@seant196 steps back on the platform June 27th, 2026 at the USAPL Barbell Brigade “City of Angels”.

This will be his second meet, and after posting a 9/9 day and peaking incredibly well in January, we will be looking to top that in less then 2 weeks. Prep has gone as good as we could have asked for, with all time PR’s on all three lifts to finish the heaviest week of training a few weeks ago. Putting the finishing touches on training this week and next before he heads to LA! by @rocketstrengthpowerlifting
