FROM THE ARCHIVES — Early Works Available

After nearly a 40-year pause from painting, my late wife Debbie gently encouraged me to pick up the brushes again in 2022.

No pressure… just loving nudges.

My first attempt at finding my painting chops again was Carmel Valley. Soon after came Bowl of Lemons, which went on to receive an award in a NOAPS exhibition. In many ways, Debbie helped reopen a door I had quietly closed decades earlier. She was my muse.

These drawings and studies come from my much earlier years — college and formative work that has lived quietly in my archives for decades.

There is also something personal behind this post. I’ll be undergoing mitral valve replacement surgery in June. I postponed this surgery for years while providing full-time care for Debbie during the final years of her life. Now, the time has come to address my own health, and my doctors have expressed concern that I may have waited too long.

Recovery may be weeks or months, so I’m making available a number of original drawings, studies, and paintings from my early years and my return to painting.

Very honored to share that my still life painting “Supper’s Ready” (12" x 16", oil on canvas) has been accepted into the 20th Annual International IGOR Juried Exhibition.

The work will be exhibited at Principle Gallery in historic Charleston, South Carolina, alongside an outstanding group of realist painters from around the world.

IGOR (International Guild of Realism) represents some of today’s finest contemporary realism, and I’m grateful to be included in this exhibition.

Rod Castello’s incredible painting was made after a 40-year pause from painting! He returned to painting after his late wife’s encouragement.

The copper pot was a quiet discovery next door, its warm glow pulling him in. A tribute to love, loss, and the everyday objects that help us rediscover who we are and why we create.
