Luxury isn’t getting louder.
It’s getting calmer.

At Roderick Builders, we see it on every project.
The most valuable homes today aren’t bigger —
they’re healthier, smarter, and designed to regulate life, not overwhelm it.

That shift isn’t theoretical. It’s happening fast.

The wellness real estate market has grown from $225B to $584B — and it’s tracking toward $1 trillion. Homes designed around wellness are selling for 10–25% more, not because they look better… but because they live better.

That’s why when we design, we don’t start with square footage.
We start with how a home should feel at 6am.
At noon.
And at night.

Light that follows the sun.
Air you don’t think about — because it’s clean.
Quiet when you need it.
Systems that work in the background so life feels easier.

This philosophy is exactly what shaped Lumen — a home we’re currently building in Park City, designed from the ground up around light, wellness, and intelligent systems. Not as a trend piece, but as a long-term benchmark. Lumen will come to market in early 2026.

The same thinking applies to work-from-home spaces. Nearly 1 in 2 buyers now REQUIRE a dedicated office or flex space. Not a desk — a space that signals focus, clarity, and control.

Wellness isn’t a feature.
It’s the foundation.

If you’re building, designing, or investing right now — save this.
This is the direction homes are moving.

Do you think wellness-first homes are already the new baseline — or is the market still catching up? by @roderickbuilders

Just when we think we’ve seen it all, Los Angeles never fails to impress us and we’re kicking things off this week with a home that truly raises the bar.

Welcome to the Getty House: a vision over ten years in the making, perched on a 1.93-acre hillside lot with sweeping views of the city and Pacific Ocean.

The design is bold yet understated. A rectangular architectural frame opens up to glass volumes that dissolve into the landscape. From the seamless use of Alabastrino travertine, the same used at the Getty Museum, to custom brass cabinetry and oak paneling - every detail here is dialed in.

It’s rare to find a home this sculptural that also feels livable. Rooted in its surroundings, yet elevated above them.

We’re excited to finally share this one with you. The full tour is now live on YouTube!

I’m just gonna say it: Sometimes, the job comes with a view that actually stops you. This is one of those times. 🌅

This project? It’s hitting different. We built this space knowing a house isn’t just about the structure—it’s about the feeling you get when you walk through the door.
We put the hours in, we got the details right, and the end result is something truly special. Look at that light. Look at that clean line work. This is where high-quality build meets a perfectly executed vision. No shortcuts, just solid craftsmanship that turns a concept into a retreat.
It’s where people will actually live their best life. That’s the real win.
If you’re dreaming up a build or renovation that feels this good, let’s talk. We turn visions into reality, one quality detail at a time. 👇

Our portfolio is full of homes that don’t look like anyone else’s, and that’s on purpose. Every project teaches us something we bring to the next one, which makes the experience hard to rival.

But the thing that matters most to us is the people we build for. We set high expectations for ourselves because our clients deserve nothing less.

What matters most to you when choosing who builds your home?

$The part nobody sees from the street is the part we’re proudest of. The Flicker Estate curves with the road, cantilevers its pool over the canyon, and stands almost entirely on concrete piles driven into the hill. It’s our sixth Los Angeles spec home with developer Joseph Englanoff. On a lot like this, the building starts long before the building. The piles come first, and the whole house is set out from them. The survey, the structural engineering, and the shoring all had to agree to a fraction of an inch before a single form went up, with crane and staging on a street barely wide enough for the trucks. Every hard thing about building on a hillside was harder here, and the finished house gives no hint of any of it. That’s the point. Most builders won’t take a lot like this. It’s the kind we take on purpose. #RoderickBuilders #LuxuryHomes #CustomHomeBuilder by @roderickbuilders$

POV: your builder actually shows up 🏔️

Trapper stopped by the cabin site to check in with one of our subs, talk through progress, go over what’s next, and touch base on the other projects in motion. It’s these quick conversations that keep everyone on the same page and the little questions from becoming big problems.

Building a custom home isn’t for the lighthearted. Trapper’s first piece of advice is to get the right team in place before anything else. Your builder, architect, and designer need to work together, not just alongside each other.

Then get honest with yourself about budget and timeline. Knowing what you’re getting into from day one is what keeps the process exciting instead of overwhelming.

What’s one thing you wish someone had told you before starting a big project?

Modern homes don't have to feel cold.

With all the clean lines and dark accents, it's easy for modern design to feel a little too stark. For this home, we wanted to find that balance.

Expansive windows bring in plenty of natural light and make the most of the surrounding mountain views, while warm wood, natural stone, and softer finishes keep everything feeling comfortable and inviting.

You still get that clean, modern look, just with a little more warmth and character.

Every material in a home should feel like a decision, not a default.

When we choose materials, we start with one question: how should this space feel? Then we pick the textures that create that feeling and fit how each room will be used.

In this home, stone carries that story from the outside in:

➡️ The exterior stone continues inside as a statement wall in the living room, connecting the home to its setting
➡️ In the bathrooms, stone wraps the walls and countertops for a calm, spa-like feel
➡️ Even organization spaces get a beautiful stone backsplash and countertop

Using natural materials throughout, in different ways, creates a quiet sense of connection from room to room. You might not notice it right away, but you feel it. The home reads as one complete idea instead of a collection of separate rooms.

That’s what intentional design looks like to us. Every texture has a reason, and every room belongs to the whole.

The best mountain homes feel like they grew out of the landscape, not like they were dropped on top of it.

Trapper walked the property to talk through how we'll shape this cabin around the terrain, the views, and the trees already here. And sometimes nature does part of the design for you, like the tree that fell right into the perfect spot on its own.

Would you rather build around what's already on your lot or start with a clean slate?

There's nothing like experiencing a home in person for the first time.

Photos can show you the layout, but walking through the Lumen House is where you feel it: the way the light moves through each room, the materials under your hands, and all the small details that make a custom home feel like yours. We'd love to see you at one of our open houses so you can experience the craftsmanship behind every build for yourself.

What's the first detail you notice when you walk into a home? by @roderickbuilders

Building off the grid takes a lot more than getting materials up the mountain.

Every crew member is traveling in, and utilities are one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle. Getting power, water, and septic systems planned and installed takes careful coordination long before the walls go up.

It's more work on the front end, but it's what makes a remote build feel effortless to live in.

Would you trade easy access for a location like this?
