It’s been a year since I went through 2 hip surgeries so I could reclaim the active life I love to my core.

I had to relearn how to walk, how to run, how to lift. I still remember thinking the day before my first surgery: this is the last time you’re going to walk normally in months. Close your eyes and remember this moment every time you feel like giving up.

The months of stillness and recovery were hard, but they gave me an unexpected gift. Without the ability to distract myself the way I always had (through the gym, through over-scheduling, through being the person everyone could count on), I couldn’t outrun what was inside me.

I started noticing patterns and pain I’d been too busy to feel: the belief that I was only valuable as a man if I was taking care of others, the need to prove my childhood bullies wrong by becoming a “perfect” man.

Through sitting and meditating, through writing and reflecting, through asking my therapist to push me harder because I didn’t want to waste this chance to slow down, and through friends who walked with me through the hardest parts of myself, I started an even harder journey: going deeply inward to identify and heal 30+ years of ignored trauma.

I learned how I developed an inner critic and perfectionist tendencies to protect myself from being hurt, because I had tied my value to always being a “good person.”

I learned how blending in and putting others first was a way of staying small, small enough that I wouldn’t draw the kind of attention that led to bullying when I was a kid.

I learned that being told by my bullies, “you’ll never be loved, you’ll always be alone, you’re ugly,” gave me an intense desire to control my appearance, and to be unkind to myself, sometimes in the very same ways they had been to me.

Instead of rejecting and fighting the protectors that created these behaviors to keep me safe, I’ve learned to embrace them, understand them, and make them feel safe, so they no longer feel like they need to do these things on my behalf. My journey is nowhere near over. But for the first time in a long time, I feel like I know who I am and what I want, and will take action to make the life I want come true. taken in New York, New York by @rodolfodays

For my 34th birthday this year I decided to take my mom and my aunt on the trip of a lifetime! For 2 weeks we explored Tokyo, Kyoto, and Taipei 🇯🇵🏯🇹🇼⛩️

The best part of the trip was seeing my mom’s first impressions. It was her first time ever flying to Asia and seeing her experience things for the first time reminded me of what it’s like to experience life like a kid again. It reminded me of all the sacrifices that her and dad made for me so I could live the happiest childhood and life ever. And now I’m just thankful I could make her smile after both of us experienced such a tough year after losing dad in 2023 ❤️🙏

Last year, I made this video with my friend @future_vizion to honor and remember my dad.

My dad was my hero because of his boundless optimism and massive heart. He was born with a congenital heart defect and told all his life that he wouldn’t live long, but he didn’t let that taint his view of life.

He lived every day with a smile, never once complaining, and gifted a smile, advice, or a hug to his loved ones.

As his condition advanced, my dad wasn’t able to travel much, but he was an adventurer at heart. He dreamed through me, enjoying every detail of my trips around the world, and greeting me with a good morning text whenever I’d land in a new destination despite the time zone.

It’s been 2 years, but every time I land from a flight I still can feel a tear streaming down my face remembering his kindness.

Our last big adventure together was playing Ghost of Tsushima, a PS5 video game about a samurai in Japan. The scenery was breathtaking and dad and I always talked about how cool it would be to see places like that in real life.

So a couple of months after dad passed away I went on a solo trip to Japan, as a spiritual journey to make that dream we had together come true. And wow it really did give me a lot of peace to feel I was making one of dad’s many dreams come true. That’s when I met Guillermo for the first time.

After our first collab, we got inspired by the idea of doing something more spiritual to bring to life how this trio had given me peace after dad’s passing. And so I flew back to Japan later in 2024 just to film this.

I wanted to post this the day of my birthday but missing dad got the best of me.

If you’ve read this far, then I’ll share one more lesson from this experience, our loved ones won’t be here forever but we can make their memories and spirit live on by making their dreams come true.

5 years, 3 lessons, a lifetime of love in one reel.

This year hit different. Not because I feel “old,” but because I finally see how much of my story has been written with the people in these photos. Family, friends, mentors, coworkers, rave crews, travel buddies, you’ve all shaped me more than you know.

The 3 lessons I’m carrying into this next chapter:
1️⃣ Never retire your childhood dreams
2️⃣ Cherish the bonds that stayed
3️⃣ Celebrate the small wins like your parents did

This reel is a love letter to everyone who’s walked with me, from Puerto Rico to New York to everywhere in between. Thank you for the laughs, the late nights, the airport hugs, the career pivots, the heartbreak recoveries, the dance floors, and the quiet check-ins when things got hard.

My dad always believed I could make the impossible into reality, he inspired me to dream the biggest dreams I could imagine. Ever since he passed away a year ago, I’ve found purpose in his words. Life isn’t worth living if you don’t believe that the impossible can come true 🥺🙏

DJing @s2ofestival main stage at the @brooklynmirage last weekend as Sensei alongside my B3B partners @officialgrimmace and @pika.jenn was one of those moments where life ceased to be real and became a dream. Every moment on stage I felt my dad was watching next to me and smiling 🥹 It was truly an honor to open for a full lineup of legends @dzeko @borgeousmusic @timmytrumpet @alanwalkermusic @marshmello 🎺 🎧
