Thirty minutes from the city of Paris, the noise falls away. I accompanied the Parisian sculptor Lionel Auvergne to his studio, a space shaped by decades of making.

Inside of the space, dust gathers on wooden beams marked by years of gestures, while an old radio rests on a shelf, its faint hum a nostalgic echo of tradition. Here, Auvergne works with resin, plaster, and clay, building surfaces that catch light like memory.

Everything begins with a line, traced and retraced, almost like breathing, until a form slowly emerges. Those drawings eventually become sculptures, limbs, torsos, fragments of bodies suspended mid-motion. Rather than concealing imperfections, Auvergne allows them to remain. A crack, an uneven edge, the faint trace of a hand, each one a record of the process itself.

For Auvergne, sculpture is never truly finished. It remains an ongoing dialogue with material, memory, and time.

Now imagine this: a sunny afternoon, 20,000 voices in the air, and standing close enough to feel the energy of a man who shaped generations of sound. Now place it all against the backdrop of the Neues Palais in Sanssouci, Potsdam.

And before he took over the night, one of Berlin’s own legends, and a true friend @kpauleee set the tone.
