President Biden made history when appointing me to be his U.S. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. I am one of only five enrolled Native Americans ever to serve as a U.S. Ambassador. Two were from my tribe — the Chinook Indian Nation — me and my fourth cousin, Amb. Chris Stevens, who tragically died in a Benghazi terrorist attack. Our ancestors were smiling yesterday when I showed President Biden the beautiful handmade Chinook necklace my tribe gifted to me to give me strength on our journey to full federal recognition. I lift you higher than myself, President Biden. 🇺🇸 taken in Manhattan, New York by @rogernyhus

The sun is setting on my first year as President Biden’s U.S. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. It has been the most incredible experience of my lifetime. During my tenure, I’ve secured nearly $1 billion in EXIM financing for the region, helped the region recover from be most powerful hurricane in recorded history, and hosted a high-level congressional delegation from the Congressional Black Caucus — all while engaging the everyday people of the seven countries I’m accredited to. Now, with the U.S. presidential transition underway, my countdown clock has begun. I depart Barbados for my hometown — Seattle, Washington — on Jan. 20, Inauguration Day. I will remain a friend, partner and advocate of the region for life. I will forever cherish this experience and the diplomatic and personal relationships I’ve developed. ❤️ taken in Barbados, Caribbean by @rogernyhus

I honored my fourth cousin, Ambassador Chris Stevens, during my final visit to the State Department. This memorial in the main lobby pays tribute to him and all who lost their lives serving our country while working at the State Department. Chris and I are two of only five Ambassadors in U.S. history with Native America heritage. We proudly belong to the Chinook Indian Nation. by @rogernyhus

Our great State Senate Majority Leader Jamie Pedersen commutes to all of his Seattle meetings by bike. Glad we have an effective public servant who cares deeply about our rights and our environment. Jamie is a pioneer deeply committed to education, civil rights, health care and the working class. I proudly and strongly support his re-election. No one has delivered more progressive results for our state than Jamie. 🌈 taken in Seattle, Washington by @rogernyhus

One of the coolest things about Seattle is we’re really a big small town. I had the privilege of spending a couple hours with the new owners of my first home on Capitol Hill. It was built in 1889 and Jimi Hendrix lived there with his aunt when he went to middle school. I am so exited that the new owners — Lauren Donovan and her husband Walker — are as interested in its care and history as much as I am. This wonderful home is in the absolute best hands. True stewards. I am grateful to pass on its stories and legacy. So many great memories. I wish you much love and happiness in this magical place. ❤️ taken in Seattle, Washington by @rogernyhus
