Funny thing is: I love darkness, but not when it arrives at these early evening hours.

My book is nominated for the Book Awards of Les Rencontres de la photographie d'Arles.

Quite an honor, since from what I've heard, this is the Walhalla of photography.

I've never visited this town, which resonates in many art history books, nor the festival. They say temperatures could reach boiling point during the summer.

Congrats also to @daanpaans and Sven Gerhardt @hoax_amsterdam 🌟

And many thanks to @eriskayconnection for publishing, @robvanhoesel for the immaculate design and @evelienseegers for all her endless efforts and of course @aukeflorian for his fresh and sharp written essay!

Sold out Today!

The book ‘Rotterdam Bevalt’, published by the always friendly Martijn Jas, @uitgeverijkapstok, in 2004, for which I covered the photographic part.

30 Rotterdam-born people from social/political/cultural, business and sports circles tell memorable stories, accompanied by memorable images.

Filmdevelopment and scanning by Maarten Drulman, from Art Lab Supercolor.

In order of appearance:

Ruud Lubbers, former PM of the Netherlands, former secretary general of UNHCR & his spouse Ria. At Rotterdam city hall.

Neelie Kroes - former minister and former EU commissioner. In her garden.

Faas Wilkes - Dutch first paid international soccer player (Internazionale, Italy). In front of his men’s clothes store, city center Rotterdam.

Loes Luca - actress. At her home.

Ivo Opstelten - former Mayor of Rotterdam & former minister of justice. At Erasmus University, Rotterdam.

From now on, this might be a collector’s item, although print run was 5000 pcs.
🙂

Partly Sponsored by @Polaroid, I graduated at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

They sent me 20 double packs to my temporary location in Antwerp, by express, though these images were all taken in Rotterdam.

Written on the street in the first image was ‘Meat is Murder’ (Vlees is moord).

There’s a ‘theme’ in these images. Though I’m not very keen on themes. One can figure it out by themselves, I guess.

Since Polaroid has made a comeback, so it seems - although not as good as they once were - i think a re-post is nice.
