It’s a real shame that 99% of the things I’ve ever done, including three hour long solo shows have no archive footage, lost to time like the pilot episode of Thomas the Tank Engine - but have pieced together a little video so that I can send to bookers and also to remind myself I’ve done some cool stuff on this mad old journey of mine !! Dead buzzing to be working with @filmhubnorth and @bfinetwork to write my first short film.

The idea appeared in front of me, whilst I was sat in a dog park in Manhattan eating the best bagel of my life and drinking an elephantine iced coffee having talked ad nauseam with whip-smart and wildly fierce woman about these maddening dynamics we’ve gotten into and sad roles we’ve let ourselves play, for a Dark Comedy Social Horror type thing about what it takes to be the Only Girl in a friendship group of Lads. What parts of ourselves do we sacrifice, what moral compromises do we make and what happens when the facades fall and shit gets real?

Short films, I’m finding, are a bit like sonnets or haikus where the limited time you have to tell the story is a great challenge in really magnifying in on what you’re actually trying to say. I’m learning a lot and as a chronic over-runner and word-count going over-er - WEWWWWWW, I love to learn new things constantly and all the time 🙃

I have really enjoyed driving places in my car and writing from a field or carpark for this project.

Anyways, I am procrastinating actually writing my second draft by doing this post. I also will get round to posting about my very very busy summer at some point - must keep the grid fed or the insta gods will get angry and ill never work again xoxo by @roisin_cl

Loved working with Moving Parts and the incredible young people across the North East to tell their stories, with a fantastical twist in the Treasury of Tyneside Tales project Crankie project.
Loved hearing their stories, from around the world and around the corner - stories worth sharing, lives worth celebrating and tales worth treasuring.

Nah, for a girl who loves words words words and chatting and writing, I knew this residency with @geckotheatre would be challenging - in a really great way - but oh so tricky. it’s so rare we get to go outside of our comfort zone in our practice as professionals, cause if you have the privilege of being paid to make art, you better do the stuff you know comes easy. You better deliver what you know is gonna work, and in no time.
“Movement” is a loaded gun for me, I couldn’t be more confident in talking my way in or out of any situation, being able to write and craft words with needle point accuracy but somewhere along the way, I felt a disconnect to being able to move as eloquently as I could speak! And I love dancing, and being wild and free - but I always found it hard to take myself seriously, and to be vulnerable in my body, without the gremlin that lives in my head saying that I wasn’t doing it right, I looked like a dickhead and everyone else knew it. But I pushed through (so safely and gently on myself!!!) those barriers and had an AMAZING week. (Soz but I even did a solo at the end of the piece!!! ME?!? Doing a physical theatre solo?! If you went drama school with me you’ll be laughing now I know. Literally the longest I’ve ever not spoken for probs)
As predicted, felt like a sponge soaking up the knowledge and experience of the Gecko team and my incredible collaborators from all around the world.
What a week, what an experience, what a way of working!
Viva la theatre - even though it’s expensive and takes years to make. Telling stories in all mediums - it keeps us alive baby!!!!
