I am so proud of the effort put into Komunal Jiu Jitsu. This academy was not only built by me; it was built by my village. So much passion was poured out into this build, and that's what makes this place so special.

Komunal is derived from the word communal. I have always believed that Jiu Jitsu is the perfect vehicle to bring different cultures together. Growing up in the United States—a true melting pot of different backgrounds, histories, and walks of life—taught me the beauty of a diverse community. But it was my Filipino and Chamorro roots that taught me how to bring people together, grounding me in the values of respect, unity, hospitality, and humility.

Our goal is to have everyone on the mat carry their unique culture with them, creating a space where heritage isn't checked at the door. Just like the tight-knit island and village mindset, we work collectively to lift each other up. In a world where everyone comes from different places, you don't just train for yourself at Komunal; you elevate everyone around you.

Just as our elders and ancestors passed down culture from generation to generation, we pass down knowledge on the mat. The stories, the language, the food, the music—it all flows through us, seeding our roots deep into the beautifully diverse kommunity we call home.

Komunal Jiu Jitsu will be an anchor for everyone—a home away from home.

We're now officially OFFICIALLY — The Samsons 🩵

What a celebration this weekend was! Surrounded by our village (missing a couple of people out of town/country). We're eternally grateful for our family, who has been a consistent support system through all these years together. We understood that this moment was not only for us, but for them and our beautiful girls.

Mr. Samson, I have always seen you as my forever. You and I have been calling each other husband and wife for so long. The only difference is that now we understand that marriage is never a question of when or where, but who — who are we doing it with and more importantly, Who are we doing it for. I said I do to my best friend and the father of my children. Together we made this promise to Christ, and finally, we have our Answer. I couldn't have asked for a more special day, a greater day after, or a more beautiful forever still to come. It's always been you and me. Some may laugh at it, not everyone will understand it, but everyone will feel it. I promise you that.

The amount of love and support Komunal Jiu Jitsu has received is mind blowing!
