@rolasoul_official would rather take the risk than follow the formula

In our latest interview, Simon James and Adam Helal reflect on originality, creative instinct, algorithms, and the process behind Rolasoul’s evolving identity.

They also discuss their EG SPOTLIGHT.342 session, why curiosity still matters when digging for music, and their growing connection with South America.

The Rolasoul boys got in touch to drop their new EG Spotlight mix, and it is an absolute monster of a journey.

Huge thanks to the lads for opening up another enormous rabbit hole of mix archives for me to disappear into! electronicgroove.com

The breakdown:
Level 1: Starts polite with Inger & Tiefstone, before the gear shifts swallow you whole into a dark-space FPS on Nightmare Mode.

Level 2: Zuccasam’s Big Boot Rewerk of Perfect Motion, a perfectly preserved 1992 dancefloor dragged into a dark 3 AM warehouse and fitted with combat boots.

The Boss Level: William Orbit – Water From A Vine Leaf (Framewerk Rework). Sounds like heaven opened a customer service department inside a collapsing factory.

The Finale: Driving house euphoria into Trilucid & Phil Martyn’s Atlas, the exact feeling of sitting in the garden with a cheeky beer, reflecting on an incredible summer.

Another huge milestone for Rolasoul following our Balance Selections mix back in June.

Adam and I would like to say a huge thank you to Mauricio and Rene for the invitation and for trusting us with this one.

A massive nod also to all the artists who trusted us with their music. Without the incredible music you create, this mix simply wouldn’t be what it is. ❤️

The full feature is live now on Electronic Groove, with the mix available to listen to on SoundCloud and Mixcloud:

And there’s plenty more to come…

🎙️ Monday: Interview
📝 Tuesday: Review from This Is Music Rewind
🎵 Coming soon: Premiere of our new track, ‘No Going Back’, on Music To Die For.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support us on the journey. 🖤 by @rolasoul_official

I’ve had this new Rolasoul mix for Balance on repeat and it’s a total earworm.

It throws out the standard progressive blueprint. Instead of a long 40-minute climb, it hits you with a sunset festival field haze before plunging into a fast, tiger-wrestling garage energy with cyber-robot synths.

Then comes the brilliant inversion: the music drops in velocity but deepens in gravity as you DESCEND into a gorgeous, haunting emotional core featuring Skunk Anansie, their own massive unreleased ID at 1h10m, and a cinematic resolution with UNKLE.

A magnificent, weaponised soundscape for the modern ear.

Rolasoul is the musical partnership of Simon James and Adam Helal. From their studio in London’s Tileyard, the duo craft forward-thinking productions that have found homes on labels including Plastic Fantastic and District.

The duo draw on extensive touring experience and a growing catalogue of releases to push the Rolasoul sound forward, always focused on what matters most: making music they believe in.

On this Balance Selections mix, Rolasoul showcase exactly what that belief is: deep, dense progressive.

Featuring tracks from Kasey Taylor & Stereo Underground, Fordal, Elliot Moriarty and more, this 90-minute journey is packed with energetic dance.
