<midnight thoughts> what I call moya writing.
Downloading new data Go tswa go Lowe, Lentswe la Matsieng 💌

[Yes, grammatically this piece won’t make sense to someone who has an English-centric mindset or should I say those who internalise and worship the coloniser’s language. “Decoloniality demands that the dominant language must adapt to indigenous identity, not that indigenous identities mutilate themselves to make English sentences flow smoothly.”] taken in Batswana by @rolene_m_

This week ke tlhomamisitswe go nna Mmatlisisi [Researcher] wa dithuto-tsa-batho [Anthropology].
Tirelo [Conference] e ne le tshwaretswe kwa yunivesithing ya Sol Plaatje [@sol_plaatje_university].
Language falls short of the profound gratitude I hold for the opportunity to present my paper confronting Western Biomedicine by advocating for African ways of knowing the body. [@anthropology_southern_africa]. To walk the path of a scholar is to commit to an ongoing, lifelong journey of unlearning, disrupting, and reimagining.
I am profoundly thankful to my supervisor Hameedah Parker and partner/mentor [@tema_maphosa], those whom I carry and voices that echo through this work [Lentswe La ga Matsieng], guiding the slow, necessary labour of collective transformation. 💌 taken in Kimberley, Northern Cape by @rolene_m_

[ Kgwedi ya Phukwi ] Wrapped in love… a cute birthday jersey from my grandmother. Being “ngwana wa koko” is a blessing like no other. My grandmother’s unconditional love… her gifts, her kisses, her quiet encouragement; is the foundation that gives me the strength to navigate this world. It is through witnessing her hold “thipa ka fa bogaleng” that I have grown into a resilient and enthusiastic young woman that I am. taken in Stellenbosch University by @rolene_m_

I started the month of Diphalane [the first month of the African calendar] reminiscing. If someone had told me this time last year that I’d be a girl with locs and completely at peace, I wouldn’t have believed them. I am living in the bubble of my childhood dreams and aspirations. “Ke ditoro” … Motswana a buile. by @rolene_m_

“Don’t get me wrong, the concept of celebrating heritage is beautiful. There is nothing wrong with celebrating your beingness. But for me, the how, when, and why are where the real questions lie.”
