Malaya is entering a new chapter

We know it’s been quiet here.

For the past six months, we poured so much of our time, energy and resources into bringing @FilipinoIslandFestAlameda to life. We’re incredibly proud of what we created, but it also meant that Malaya didn’t receive the attention and care that a small business needs.

Now we’re bringing our focus home and honestly, we need your support more than ever.

With hemp regulations and industry policies changing, our product collection is evolving too.

🌿 We’re phasing out products containing detectable THC.

🌿 Our remaining original Malaya formulas containing THC that are eligible for sale will be available online through November 4 and inside our Alameda shop through December 11, while supplies last.

🌿 We’re reformulating select Malaya favorites with cannabinoid ingredients independently tested as non-detectable for THC.

🌿 Some products will return in a new form, while others may be retired.

🌿 We’re expanding our botanical body care, aromatherapy, magnesium, candles, scent rituals and everyday wellness offerings.

Malaya is also growing beyond the shelf.

Our Malaya space is evolving into a home for rotating wellness practitioners, pop-up modalities, restorative experiences and meaningful ways to gather and reconnect.

Retail • Ritual • Community • Experiences

Bigger events, collaborations and new projects are also on the horizon, all rooted in culture, care and community.

If an original Malaya product has been part of your wellness ritual, this is the time to replenish it. Every purchase, shop visit, shared post and word-of-mouth recommendation helps us carry Malaya into its next chapter.

This birthday felt less like a celebration and more like a reflection of the life I’ve built and the people who have chosen to stay in it.

Dancing has always been my first love. It’s been my sanctuary, my therapy, my place of freedom. Through heartbreak, uncertainty, growth, and reinvention, it has always brought me back to myself. Looking at this photo, I see joy - but I also see healing. I see a woman who has survived a lot, softened in some places, strengthened in others, and is still learning, still evolving, still becoming.

As I get older, I find myself caring less about how many people are in the room and more about who IS in the room. The people who have walked beside me through different chapters of my life. The ones who have witnessed my growth, held space for my mistakes, celebrated my wins, and loved me through every version of myself.

And most of all, I’m grateful for Rolo.

For a long time, I didn’t realize how much healing begins when you finally feel safe. Rolo has been that safe space for me. He has loved me through my mess, literally and figuratively 🤣, my growth, my fears, and my dreams. He has helped me believe in myself when I couldn’t see it, and because of that, for the first time in my life, I feel like I can truly begin my healing journey. Not because he fixed me, but because his love gave me the safety to finally face the parts of myself that needed healing.

To everyone who called, texted, showed up, sang, hugged me, shared kind words, and made me feel so loved. THANK YOU! You made my day extra special 🥰

My cup is full. My heart is full.

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who held everything together quietly, fiercely, lovingly.

The women who immigrated here with nothing certain ahead of them.
The women who sacrificed careers, comfort, sleep, time, dreams so their children could have more choices.

We’re honoring our moms today.
Leaving the Philippines in their 30s with young kids, starting over in a completely different country without knowing what life would look like next.

So much of Malaya exists because of that courage.

Today we celebrate all forms of mothering - birth moms, chosen moms, aunties, lolas, stepmoms, mentors, dog moms, grieving moms, healing moms, and the women learning to mother themselves too.

Cannabis moving from Schedule I to III isn’t just policy…
it’s a reflection of something deeper shifting.

For years, this plant was categorized in a way that didn’t match lived experience. 
Not for patients. Not for practitioners. Not for those of us building businesses rooted in care, education, and intention.

Now, with the Department of Health and Human Services recommending this reclassification through the Drug Enforcement Administration, we’re seeing a slow alignment between policy and reality.

Practically, this could mean the removal of Internal Revenue Code Section 280E - a tax burden that has quietly shaped the entire industry. That alone changes how businesses survive.

But beyond operations, this moment carries something else:

Validation.

Not the kind we needed to begin - but the kind that shifts access, perception, and opportunity. At the same time, it raises important questions.

Who benefits from this shift? Who gets left behind? And how do we protect the integrity of a space that was built by legacy operators and small brands long before it was accepted?

At Malaya, we’ve always approached cannabis through the lens of wellness, ritual, and nervous system support. That doesn’t change. If anything, this moment deepens the responsibility to stay rooted in why we started.

Still feeling so much gratitude to our tribe from Friday night!

You were the first to arrive, the last to leave, and the ones who held it all together in between. From check-in, to helping vendors, moving tables, answering questions, and holding it all together… you showed up with so much care. And beyond that, so many of you helped promote, shared the event, brought your people, donated to our raffle, and even provided talent and sound. That kind of support doesn’t go unnoticed. You weren’t just helping, you were part of what made the night feel welcoming, smooth, and alive.
