We hosted a dig day at @cheltfestivals for 40 people and this is how it went!? 📚🪏 We started the morning with tea, coffee and pastries! 🥐 Gave a small talk and did a pre-dig briefing at @dunkertonspark home of @dunkertonscider what a venue!🍻🍎 @minelabdetecting and @lpmetaldetecting sorted us out with the gear! We were using the Vanquish 360! The perfect machine for beginners 🙏 And off they go! 👨‍🦯‍➡️ But don’t worry, we were on hand to help and give lessons! 🫶 We also hid a load of tokens for people to find earlier in the day! The more tokens found, the more chances to win prizes!! 🪙 Does anything compare to finding your first rusty bolt!? 😆 Iconic coke can find and manicure! 💅♥️ Lots of tokens being found and happy smiles despite it drizzling all day!! 🌧️ Dan! Get in touch we found your keys 😂🗝️ Debrief back at base and raffle time! We had brand new machines and Roman Found merch up for grabs! Thank you @minelabdetecting for supporting the event! 🙌 We finished off the day with a much needed cider! 🍻 It was our second event of the festival after giving a talk the evening before at the town hall! Thank you for having us @cheltfestivals 🫶 Could the day get any better? We were given a behind the scenes tour of @dunkertonscider 😮 your hospitality was unmatched! 🙏 Hey! We’re Ellie and Lucie. Authors, cousins and detectorists! Let us know if you’d like to join us for another dig day! And follow @romanfound hehe 🤎 by @romanfound
If you told us we’d be speaking at @cheltfestivals when we first started digging holes in the ground we wouldn’t believe you?!? 📚 Thank you @tiffmurray for chairing a fabulous talk along side Professor of Archaeology Mark Horton!! We had such a wonderful time and we could have talked for hours!! 😂 And a huge thank you to everyone who came along and grabbed a copy of our book!!! 🤎 by @romanfound
We completely agree! Giving the medieval buckle its moment to shine, it’s not easy competing with Tudor silver! 😉 So here’s the recovery moment! 😂 1250-1400, Medieval Buckle by @romanfound
Almost 2000 years of history, a collection of metal detecting finds we uncovered during a group dig; Roman brooch fragments, a Medieval buckle, Tudor and Stuart coinage. Loved the colours in this shoot, had to share a couple more shots with you. 🤎 Photographed with @canonuk @lightroom Found with @minelabdetecting @lpmetaldetecting by @romanfound
I had the privilege of working with @venerable.beads this year on a set of brooches to wear for our book tour and festival lineup! 📚 They received lots of lovely compliments at @wigtownbookfest this week, so here they are for a closer look! Inspiration for the motifs came from a collage of finds at the end of chapter 8. Drawing from Anglo-Saxon and medieval references. Keep an eye out for them when you’re reading! 📖 Show some love to @venerable.beads 🤎 by @romanfound
Scroll across to see our favourite finds from a two day group dig! Minus all the trash of course… (Maybe the trash needs its own post.) 😂 All our star finds on this occasion were found in the morning session before lunch on the first day. Sometimes you just get lucky with a good hotspot! Day two felt like we were scraping the barrel. 😅 Starting strong with a stonker! Our Elizabeth I groat, 1558 - 1561. (This is Lucie’s fave, she always loves a hammy find and this signal blew her ears off!) 🤓 The numismatic curiosity, a Charles I rose farthing, 1636 - 1644. (Sorry, the crown looked way cooler than the rose.)🌹 Enough coins, it’s time for the star artefact of the dig! A Roman brooch, Hod Hill type, 40 - 60 AD. (Ellie’s favourite find! That girl loves an artefact.) 😎 Special mention for the Medieval buckle. Can you identify which one it is? 🪏 Kindly follow along for more buried history! @romanfound 🤎 by @romanfound
📚 It’s our North American publication day!! 🇺🇸🎉 ‘Things We Found in the Ground’ is now available in paperback across the pond!! We can’t wait for you all to read it! Order your copy via our link in bio 🔗 by @romanfound
Did we find one of the most hated coins ever minted in Britain? 👀🪙 by @romanfound
This is our first ever groat find! And it’s incredible to think that at the time it was minted, it was likely one of the last groats the English public held in their hands for over 80 years! Naturally, Elizabeth I had to do something to resolve the chaos of her father’s Henry VIII’s debasements, which robbed over 80% of silver from English coins, but did she have to remove our favourite type of hammered coin from circulation? by @romanfound
What’s better, finding a hammered or radio chats with the crew? 🎙️We promise it’s not a competition 🤣 @the_sussex_searcher @detectortimmy Follow along to see this hammered cleaned up! Full episode out now 📺 by @romanfound
We’ve all seen Men posing with Fish but have you seen Detectorists posing with Finds?! Here’s our version posing with our books! 😂📚 US paperback out Sept 22!! 📖 UK hardback out now! Order both via our link in bio 🙌 by @romanfound
