Роман Хімей, митець що працює з рухомим зображенням на межі кінематографу та візуального мистецтва.

Співпрацює в дуеті з Яремою Малащуком.

Документальний фільм «Відкритий світ» над яким працював Роман, зараз номіновано на премію Європейської кіноакадемії а відеоінсталяції його авторства, знаходяться в колекціях музею Тиссен-Борнеміса, Мадрид, музеї мистецтв Ліхтенштейну, музеї сучасного мистецтва в Антверпені, в музеї Frac Bretagne, Ренн (Франція), в музеї сучасного мистецтва Гельсінкі (Kiasma), в галереї Поггі, Париж та інших.

Був пластуном в 2006-2009рр., 55 курінь імені Максима Залізняка, гурток Кажани 🦇, м. Коломия. Відеозйомкою захопився під час пластування. by @romanhimey

Роман Хімей — оператор-постановник проєкту «Інтимна сцена».

Попередній фільм Романа «Додаткові сцени» над яким він працював як співрежисер та співоператор, перегукується з «Інтимною сценою» не лише в назві, а також партисипативною складовою. Військовий, а в минулому відомий актор Павло Алдошин, приїжджає з фронту в Київ на три дні для того, щоб зіграти цивільного в «Додаткових сценах». Фільм став переможцем Tallinn Black Nights IFF та отримав національну премію кінокритиків Кіноколо.

Окрім роботи в кіно, Роман також працює і в мистецькому просторі. Разом із Яремою Малащуком вони створюють відеоінсталяції та фільм-перформанси які представляють в провідних мистецьких інституціях, зокрема в Музеї Тиссена-Борнемісса в Мадриді та на Венеційській бієнале (La Biennale di Venezia).

«Додаткові сцени» – це експериментальна драма, в якій головний актор – Павло Алдошин – актор, котрий з 2022 року є справжнім військовим. А у фільмі він зіграв роль військового, що грає акторську роль цивільного.

🪖Заплуталися у попередньому абзаці? Ярема Малащук та Роман Хімей – режисери фільму – системно поєднують світ кіно та сучасного мистецтва у своїх фільмах. Автори запросили Алдошина приїхати в Київ на декілька днів та спробувати зіграти цивільного.

🎥Павло спостерігає за мирним життям та намагається відтворити його як актор, навіть у сцені побутової суперечки про подушки.

🏆Фільм відзначений низкою престижних українських та міжнародних нагород. Стрічка здобула головну нагороду програми Rebels with a Cause на Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2024, а також отримала Національну премію кінокритиків «Кіноколо» як найкращий короткометражний ігровий фільм. Крім того, на 53-му Київському міжнародному кінофестивалі «Молодість» фільм був удостоєний головного призу журі Спілки кінокритиків України та спеціальної відзнаки журі.

Último fin de semana para visitar la exposición ‘Pedagogías de guerra’ en el @museothyssen. En la muestra, comisariada por @the_chus_martinez, los artistas ucranianos Roman Khimei & Yarema Malashchuk representan con sus piezas la guerra como un sistema operativo que estructura y condiciona la realidad.

Tal y como comenta Yarema Malashchuk en una entrevista con @koozarch, los artistas intentan “escapar de la «gran narrativa». Vivimos bajo el peso de las grandes narrativas; por eso elegimos esa mirada periférica [...] Creo que permite percibir la violencia como una condición continua, en lugar de como un momento único y acotado.”

La muestra estará disponible hasta el 21 de junio.

Last weekend to visit ‘Pedagogies of War’ at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza. In the exhibition, curated by Chus Martínez, Ukrainian artists Roman Khimei and Yarema Malashchuk present works that portray war as an operating system that structures and conditions reality.

As Malashchuk notes in an interview with @koozarch, both artists seek to “trying to escape from the ‘grand narrative’. We live under the weight of grand narratives; that’s why we choose the peripheral gaze [...] I believe it allows violence to be felt as a continuous condition, rather than a single, contained moment.”

The exhibition will remain on view until 21 June. by @romanhimey

Since 2016, the duo has been developing a film practice that blends documentary and fiction by re-enacting reality. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the upheaval of their daily lives in wartime now lie at the heart of their work.

In March 2025, they opened “Pedagogy of War” at the @tba_21 in Madrid and are presenting three installations as part of the collateral events of the Venice Biennale.
➿
They still live in Kyiv: every journey out of Ukraine is a long and complex undertaking, and their studio has just been destroyed by flooding caused by a Russian rocket strike on the Kyiv thermal power station.
