I'm a little late to the EVO SL party, but not too late to start a new build. After six months, I can finally say I'm 100% weather acclimated — and maybe even 100% local 😉 At 𝟒𝟔, I'm just grateful to have the health to get out and run, even in conditions like these. I kept reminding myself of that throughout the 2026 #GalaxyManilaMarathon.⁣
⁣
Billed as a landmark moment for Philippine running, it became the first marathon to take over EDSA, drawing nearly 6,000 runners from SM Mall of Asia to SM North EDSA and back. Running through the country's busiest thoroughfare in the middle of the night was something few runners ever imagined possible.⁣
⁣
The challenge wasn't just the flyovers and elevation. It was the heat, humidity, uneven pavement, poor air quality in some sections, and the constant need to watch every step.⁣
⁣
Then at kilometer 37, I stepped into a pothole and rolled my ankle. For a split second, I thought my race was over. I nearly hit the pavement before another runner caught me and helped steady me.⁣
⁣
There were things that could have been better, particularly course lighting and marshal presence in some sections. I hope future editions address those concerns. To be fair, the hydration stations were well-stocked, the volunteers were encouraging, and the pre- and post-race atmosphere was excellent.⁣
⁣
Despite everything, what I'll remember most is watching Manila transition from Saturday night to Sunday morning on foot, sharing the struggle with thousands of runners, and crossing the finish line just before sunrise, somehow still smiling 😊

The goal was simple: beat the sunrise.

Sunrise: 5:27 AM. Me: 5:20 AM.

Celebrating this hard-earned finish with a glorious shower and the kind of nap you have to qualify for.

Congrats to everyone who finished the 2026 Galaxy Manila Marathon. That one was fucking tough.

Did my own *𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪* version of the @ChiDistanceSeries on the streets of Quezon City today. It would've been my 5th time running this event, but being 8,000 miles away from Garfield Park called for a little improvisation 😁 ⁣⁣⁣

𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 has been part of my life for years, but I still feel like I'm figuring it out.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
I've run through freezing Chicago mornings, hot and humid days in Manila, and just about everything in between. Some mornings, the alarm wins. Most mornings, I do 😅 ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

At 46, I'm grateful that I can still do what I love and see where the next mile takes me.⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
I'm equally grateful for the running community that's cheered me on, shared the journey, and made the miles more meaningful ❤️⁣

Five months in the Philippines already 🇵🇭

Mornings start hot, even before sunrise — the air already heavy, tricycles humming in the distance, neighborhood dogs on patrol, and the sky slowly shifting colors as the city wakes up.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Running here hasn’t really been about hitting splits or trying to fight the heat, at least for me. It’s more about learning to move with it — respecting the humidity, slowing down when I need to, and still showing up… 𝘰𝘳 𝘯𝘰𝘵 😅. Out here, it’s either a 4:30 AM alarm or chasing sunsets and trying to stay alive before dinner.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Either way, I’m grateful for every run—the sweaty ones, the swampy ones, the strong ones, and the ones that just remind me to keep moving.⁣⁣

Got to test some new running apparel from @enimalworldwild this morning, and even in the blistering heat and brutal humidity, it honestly held up really well against some of the bigger premium running brands like Tracksmith, Bandit, Satisfy, and Saysky.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
What impressed me most is how naturally it balances performance and style. Lightweight, breathable, comfortable on the run, and still clean-looking enough to wear after this swampy 8K, lol 😅 It has that similar elevated feel that makes good running gear feel a little more special without overdoing it.⁣⁣

Normally held in Chicago, I did my own version of the 𝐀𝐀𝐍𝐇𝐏𝐈 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐱 𝟑𝐑𝐔𝐍𝟐 here in Quezon City — a small way to honor where I come from and take up space wherever I am. At a time when AANHPI voices in the U.S. are still questioned and pushed aside, every mile feels like my quiet way of pushing back. We’re not invisible, we’re not quiet, and we’re not going anywhere. Thank you @kristen.mendiola for the reminder and for everything you do for the AANHPI community 🫶🏽 ⁣

Four months in, and somehow this sauna of a city has started to feel normal. I’ve got my go-to coffee spots, my usual running routes, and a daily losing streak against the heat 🥵⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Running here has taught me to be extra patient—and that humans can, in fact, sweat everywhere. Every mile feels tougher, but also more meaningful (𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘥) 💦💦💦 Progress looks different too: slower paces, earlier alarms or chasing sunsets, and a stronger mindset powered by electrolytes and denial 🥴⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Life’s gotten simpler in the best ways — good coffee, long runs, time with the people who matter most, and learning to be present instead of rushing through the day like I did in the CHI⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Didn’t expect four months to fly by this fast, all while achieving 100% weather acclimation — which I’ll count as a win 😅 ⁣

I'm slowly getting used to running in the streets of Quezon City all while dodging motorists who think lanes are optional, pedestrians who appear out of nowhere, the occasional stray, a heavy mix of heat and humidity with less-than-fresh air, and uneven pavement that tries its best to end your hamstrings 😵⁣
⁣ ⁣
And when things get too chaotic, I’ve accepted that walking it out is part of the strategy… thankfully that’s very much 𝘛𝘖𝘓𝘌𝘙𝘈𝘛𝘌𝘋 here 😏⁣
