Spectacular Data: Fascism and the Coded Present is an interdisciplinary research-creation project in formation that sets out to investigate how AI-powered technologies of surveillance, disinformation and domination induce or propel contemporary registers of fascism and authoritarianism by transforming social, cultural, and political domains into modes of spectacle.

As a collaboration of academics, artists and researchers from a range of disciplines, the project seeks to develop creative approaches and opportunities to critically engage AI and the emerging modes of technologically enabled fascism and authoritarianism.

Collaborators and contributors include Maria Sigridur Finnsdottir, Bailey Kacsmar, Andreas Kahre, Sourayan Mookerjea, Donia Mounsef, Richard Pinet, Rona Rangsch, Geoffrey Rockwell, Angela Wilson, and Sheena Wilson.

Revisiting the theme of wildfires in light of its continued relevance. The first four photos were taken last year, ca. three months after the wildfires in Conception Bay North. The last one was taken on a foggy day in the same area this July.

(PS: In the third picture, have you noticed how the angel has lost their arms but not their wings?)
