Badlapur (2015) directed by Sriram Raghavan and starring Varun Dhawan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi, and Yami Gautam. Based on Massimo Carlotto's novel Death's Dark Abyss, the neo-noir revenge thriller follows Raghu, a man whose life is shattered when his wife and young son are killed during a botched bank heist. Consumed by grief and a relentless thirst for vengeance, Raghu spends fifteen years plotting retribution against the convicts responsible, only to find the lines between victim and monster blurring as his moral compass deteriorates. The film is acclaimed for its dark, atmospheric tone, razor-sharp narrative twists, Sachin-Jigar’s haunting soundtrack, and raw, career-defining performances by Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, delivering an unforgiving look at how grief, obsession, and vengeance can strip away a man’s humanity until no real victory remains.

Train Dreams (2025) brings Denis Johnson’s acclaimed novella to life, capturing the haunting, quiet tragedy of early 20th-century America. Set against the vast, rugged landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, the film follows Robert Grainier, a day laborer navigating the rapid onset of industrialization while grappling with profound personal loss. As the world transforms around him through the roar of steam engines and expanding railways, Grainier retreats into a solitary life filled with memory, grief, and mysterious encounters.

Led by Joel Edgerton in a deeply moving, subtle performance, the film balances lyrical beauty with poignant drama. Directed with a grounded visual style, Train Dreams explores themes of isolation, love, and the quiet resilience of the human spirit in a changing landscape. Visually striking and emotionally reverberating, it offers a poetic, timeless cinematic experience.

With critical acclaim building around its atmospheric storytelling and powerful score, Train Dreams stands out as a masterpiece of American cinema. It delivers an unforgettable journey through memory, nature, and the passage of time. by @ronc.yearns
