You Fight How You Train by @rondiskin

I usually think it’s weird to post such things, but I have many emotions (mainly of gratitude) and wanted to express myself:

This morning my guru, Herzl Shafir, passed away at the age of 92. He was the Vice Chief of Staff of the IDF, commander of the south, head of police of israel, head of R&D of weapons of Israel, head of the delegation of the Israeli Ministry of Defense to The Pentagon, and many other such positions.

In the begging of my coming to Israel to volunteer as a soldier there he welcomed me to his home with open arms. He taught me more than anyone has ever taught me. Things I could never learn at Harvard (his letter of recommendation helped me get accepted). Things one can never learn in books. He always had a seat at the table for me. He always believed in me. He gave me great courage and great strength. I told him when he was sick that “you are my compass. Without you I am lost and alone, but because of you I will always find my way.” He was like a grandfather to me. He was my best friend. He was my mentor. He was my idol. I loved him very much. I hope I will have the strength, courage and luck to Honor such a great man ❤️⚔️🙏🏻. I will forever be in his debt. by @rondiskin
