where is the comfort in this moulting coat?
my skin is itchy, I am tired
I've been through this before
the visceral changes that transform me
and although my hair has grown back lighter
I am weighted by its thick memory
braided into my dna

it isn't supposed to be comfortable, this transition
it is supposed to gnaw you open
strip back your armour
reveal your beating heart
stretch your mind wide
as within so without

the mark left is not something to fear
a scar to be remembered, honoured, revered
so, I tend to its healing
gathering medicines to soothe the ache
witnessing each step of regrowth

within this uncomfortability, I am met with a choice
a choice to suffer | a choice to surrender
reopen the wound | allow space for harmony
cycle in insanity | flow in the river
most days, its somewhere in-between...

so, I choose
I choose over and over again
to let natures reminder of letting be, become my experience
softening the grip of familiarity
trusting in the rainfall on my cheek
a cathartic moment of release

and as the remnants of past lives shed
I look behind at the path they lay
the shadow of an older me waves
I smile
emerging anew, raw and heightened
welcoming a new era of becoming
