You must celebrate every win. If you do this, you attract more.

Only some of you will know just what music is to me.

It’s 12 year old me taking blank tapes to my friends house to record all my favourite songs off their cds they had, just so I could listen back home on my cassette player - and when I say for hours and hours every day, I mean it.

It’s me at 15 taking mixtapes of mashups to local take-aways for them to play and having a make-shift recording studio built in my bedroom by my parents to pursue my dream (love you for that!).

It’s making a hard-house version of the Coca Cola theme song for my final GCSE music exam and touring schools playing the guitar with the class.

It’s 18 year old me making hip hop beats for rappers in London and US, and doing a college radio show once a week, and releasing music on MySpace. It’s having my first club track (Avicii Edit of course) played by another dj in an actual club environment and thinking that my dreams had come true. Well, one had! Then realising that’s what I wanted to do - make music, and perform it through DJing.

Every music producer will tell you it’s tough. Lots of rejection, which is true. However, rejection is redirection. And it is what makes every little win a big win, which is important to celebrate. I know that this isn’t quite Hottest Record, or Essential New Tune, but, to me - 15 year old me - this is up there with them.

Just always remember that younger you when you’re pursuing your passion, be proud, and celebrate! This is another dream come true! Thank you, we continue. 🫡

I’m never very good at explaining the music I make… but I can try to explain how this one felt.

We Are Free started with no emotion at all - just sounds, chords and space. The test for me is always the same: can I turn that into something that makes me feel something? That “woah… what’s that in my chest?” kind of feeling that makes you restart a track again and again.
This song feels like a compressed timeline of emotions. A kind of sunrise energy in the beginning - chants and vocals melting into the chords - then a shift halfway through, like stepping into determination, pushing forward, and finally opening up into something brighter and euphoric.

I made this one for me. But if it makes you feel something too… what a beautiful thing to share. 🫶 taken in Peterborough by @roobinzuk

‘When With U’ is something new from me. I haven’t bothered with a label, I just wanted to try everything myself so I can just have full control and enjoy the process and get stuck in. I hope you like the groove as the summer is beginning to slowly draw to an end x
