Every story has a skeleton. Sometimes you have to write the whole thing before you can see it 🖤

Brilliant @cjcooke_author workshop last night on the bones of a story - and one tiny idea about structure has sent me straight back into my WIP with fresh eyes.

I think I have just discovered something that was hiding in the manuscript all along… 👀🕯️ by @roohiraisauthor

Working on Book 2 💀🧟‍♀️ First draft almost done! 🙌🏽 by @roohiraisauthor

Horror is on the rise.

Noted. 👀🖤

Especially interesting when you happen to be writing something that is becoming increasingly difficult to describe without sounding mildly unhinged.

Back to work… 🕯️

My first @edbookfest! Looking forward to seeing #kirandesai and @johngrisham 🤩📚✍🏼 by @roohiraisauthor

Utterly compelling. Loved the pacing - sharp, addictive and impossible to put down. And somehow I found myself rooting for these thoroughly obnoxious characters! 😂 @sharilapena #gettingawaywithmurder by @roohiraisauthor

📚Two different genres…two different lessons in craft #booknerd #booklover #bookstagram by @roohiraisauthor

📚Six books that didn’t just inspire me to write - they reshaped how I see the world and made me question the stories I thought I understood.

📚 The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai
A powerful reminder that history, migration and longing live quietly inside everyday family moments.

📚 Brick Lane by Monica Ali
A moving portrait of how a woman’s inner life can become a quiet, radical act of rebellion.

📚 White Teeth by Zadie Smitj
A vibrant, chaotic exploration of culture, identity and family - told with wit and fearless energy.

📚 Honour by Elif Shafak
A gripping story of love, shame and tradition - and how they can both hold a family together and tear it apart.

📚 Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
A haunting tale where atmosphere, obsession and absence linger long after the final page.

📚 Different Seasons by Stephen King
A masterclass in storytelling that proves the most extraordinary stories begin with ordinary lives.

Together, these books taught me that the stories we inherit can shape us - but writing gives us the power to question them, reclaim them and sometimes rewrite the ending.

Which book made you want to become a writer?

📚I have been writing my novel for twelve years.
Twelve years of early mornings, stolen lunch break and one very patient agent.

Here’s what kept me going…

The day I switched POV and heard her voice for the first time.
Suddenly she wasn’t a character I was writing.
She was a woman I was listening to.
That was the moment I knew I couldn’t stop.
