I have so many stories to tell,
and I’ve only just gotten started.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Celebrated my 28th birthday on May 12th. The rose was a gift from my neighbour. We lost the number 8 candle so my mom did a little math with my birthday pumpkin pie. Digging back into my TBR pile. by @rooney.writes

Getting immersed into a novel project again feels so good. I’ve been taking advantage of the warm weather and sitting out on the balcony, working through the 57k words I wrote last November toward my WIP The Postcard, and writing pages and pages of notes. There were ladybugs galore keeping me company over several days, with all kinds of spots.

What a surprise, I actually like a lot of what I wrote, even got a little teary eyed, and I can make fun of myself for being really cliché with some parts.

I got some disposable fountain pens recently and wrote all these notes in pink bc I didn’t want to waste the ā€œnormalerā€ colours, but it ended up being a great idea bc I can write over the notes with a darker colour if it’s illegible.

After several days of writing my hand though, my right wrist is not happy with me. I’ve got another 30 in-story days to thoroughly outline to finish the story, and then I’m starting over from the beginning to implement all the ideas and revisions I made this week. I think I’m due for a brain-dump session because for the life of me I can’t find any notes I may have written about this WIP, but the fact that I came up with it in such short notice before Nanowrimo in 2023, I fear I may not have any more notes 😱

Can you believe I got a sandal tan in October?

And that’s a wrap on my 5th year of #nanowrimo in a row! Featured are the cover image I slapped together and some little avatars I made of my central characters. I’ll be writing the last 4 days of #nanowrimo2023 to get in all 30 days. Good luck to everyone else participating.

So excited to see the finished product on issue 3 of the Water Damaged Paper Anthology 😁

I submitted a prose poem last year and was very pleased to be accepted. This issue is focused on ableism and disability justice.

My poem is on page 20-21. The link will be on my highlight!

October in the Earth is the first ARC I’ve ever received, and I sure am glad to have had the opportunity to read it when I did.

This story has a slow start that couldn’t be more vital to the reader’s understanding of its main character Del. Olivia Hawker has a unique talent for establishing narrative stakes at a very human level. The slow start may not suit some readers but I for one was transported on a journey with these characters, and Hawker’s skilled pacing kept me turning page after page because I just had to know how things ended up.

The titular line can be found nine chapters into the book, and reading it then I knew just how deep of an impression Louisa Trout would make on Del. Their journey together is vast and emotional, and yet I never could fully anticipate what would happen next. I began reading this book at noon on a Thursday and finished it Friday at 5pm with tears in my eyes during the last three chapters.

This is admittedly the first Olivia Hawker book I’ve read, besides her non fiction ā€œTake Off Your Pants!ā€ under the name Libbie Hawker that I found invaluable in my own writing practice. This may be somewhat of a spoiler, but the bond between Del and Louisa reminds me of Virginia Woolf’s writing, especially in the depth of love for and between women. It is bone-deep and unnamable and holds a certain kind of beauty that not many people can see.

PS. I still have tears on my lashes from the end of this book.

Readers can have their turn with October in the Earth on October 10, 2023.
