The art of reflection: a pondering prescription for well-being

It’s no surprise that philosophers, writers, artists, and musicians are associated with smoking; with its mood-boosting and concentration-enhancing properties, it became the elixir of choice for those seeking a shortcut to a good dose of pondering. Reflection allows us to pause, contemplate, gain insights into ourselves, and escape the horrors around us. It’s a practice that supposedly promotes delusions, intellectual grandstanding, and a feeling of self-importance—essential ingredients for leading what some might call a fulfilling life.

But let’s not get too carried away with the romanticism of contemplative puffs. Let’s not forget that the true elixir lies in the art of reflection itself. After all smoke and mirrors can only go so far.
