I’ve already designed it.

The beautiful boutique hotels.
The private transportation.
The restaurants and local experiences.
The winter magic.

Now I’m opening it to one private group of 6-12 guests for this Late November-Early December.

Picture this: A luxury Winter escape through Zagreb and Slovenia, your favourite people beside you, and every detail already taken care of.

It begins in Zagreb, home to one of Europe’s most celebrated Advent Markets (the whole city glows) then slides in the castle, storybook towns and culinary trails of neighbouring Slovenia. Through it all - thoughtful. Authentic. Well paced. Culinary Decadence. So much fun!

And I’ll personally host the adventure, bringing my ROOT44 connections and love of this part of Europe along with me.

You gather your favourite people.

I take care of the rest.

You book your flights.
You arrive in Zagreb.
And your winter adventure begins.

This is for the friends who have been saying we really should travel together.

The couples looking for something a little different.

The family who wants to make a magical memory.

Or simply a group of curious travellers who appreciate beautiful places, exceptional food and travelling in very good company.

Everywhere you look, it’s beautiful. Plitvice National Park in Croatia is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a masterpiece of nature. But because it is a true world wonder, it is incredibly popular. Usually, that means crowds. And crowds steal the peace nature is trying to give you.For me, travel is about connection. Connecting you to what truly matters in a quiet, unobstructed way. Can you find the frog? 🐸🌿

One of my favourite little secrets in Zagreb is this beautiful botanical garden — tucked quietly into the city, yet somehow a world away from it.

After two weeks of travelling through Croatia, hosting, driving, coordinating, solving, and making sure everyone else is having a wonderful time… this is where I come to decompress.

The Botanical Garden has been here since 1889. right in the heart of Zagreb’s Lower Town. It’s part of the city’s beautiful Green Horseshoe and is home to thousands of plants from around the world. But honestly, for me, its greatest gift isn’t something you can put on a plant label.

It’s quiet.

There is something about walking beneath the trees, listening to the water, watching the frogs disappear between the lily pads, and simply being surrounded by something living that makes everything slow down.

Croatia has no shortage of magnificent places to see — historic towns, ancient walls, UNESCO sites, churches, palaces, islands and spectacular coastlines.

But sometimes, after seeing all of that, what I need most is nature.

A little green space in the middle of a big city.

A place to breathe.

A place to reflect.

A place to feel human again.

And for just €2, this little garden gives me something that is, quite honestly, priceless.

Quiet is medicine for my mind.

And now… back to the frog.

When I design and lead private experiences in Europe, I want my guests to see more than its beautiful hotels, famous sights and well-known streets.

I want them to feel the pulse of a place.

That means wandering into the small towns and quiet neighbourhoods where people have lived for generations—where laundry still hangs above a centuries-old alley, doors open onto the street, and everyday life unfolds much as it has for generations.

These are often the moments that stay with us.

Not because they are grand or perfectly preserved, but because they are real. There is something deeply moving about seeing a way of life that has endured through centuries and realizing that, for the people who live there, it is simply home.

This particular corner of Istria holds an especially deep place in my heart. It is part of the region my family comes from, and watching my guests become genuinely moved by its simplicity, beauty and aliveness reminded me once again why I design travel this way.

Luxury has its place.

But authentic connection is what makes a place unforgettable. by @root44travel

September 11.

Today, while hosting a private American group in Croatia, we found ourselves in a tiny chapel within the 6th Century Trsat Franciscan monastery, high above Rijeka, Croatia

The Kapela zavjetnih darova — Chapel of Votive Gifts — is filled from floor to ceiling with photographs and small offerings.

People have brought photographs of those they have loved and lost.

Children. Parents. Friends.

Ordinary people whose lives mattered deeply to someone.

There was something moving about standing in that room and seeing so many lives remembered in such a simple, deeply human way.

And then I saw it.
A photograph of the Twin Towers.

On September 11.
There we were — an American group, far from home, standing inside a centuries-old place of pilgrimage in a small historic corner of Croatia — and suddenly the distance between here and that day seemed to disappear.

I don’t know who brought that photograph here, or what their connection was to the people who were lost. But someone came to this place and left it here.

To remember.
To grieve.
To honour.

And finding it there, on this particular day, with my American guests beside me, felt almost impossible to describe.

Profoundly moving. Almost chilling in its coincidence.

September 11 was never only an American story. It touched people from countless countries, backgrounds and walks of life — including people like my own Canadian cousin, who was working in New York that morning and was only blocks away when the first plane struck.

Perhaps that is why this moment felt so deeply personal to me.
Because grief knows no borders.
Neither does memory.

And perhaps this is one of the things I love most about travel: you can go halfway around the world and unexpectedly find a thread that connects strangers, places and memories — reminding us that, beneath our flags and borders, we are simply human.

Today, we stopped.
We looked.
And we remembered.
