“Many will be extended, but not every ghost’s invitation should be accepted as we near the end of this eclipse season. Or maybe, ever.

Because not all mothers are good. Some become twisted, hanged by the strangled roots of their own gnarled past. There’s always something of that rot that remains: religion, oppression, abuse, exploitation. These things that were pushed upon us, these institutions of decay that infect not just the present but generations to come. Lineages that have to reckon with the cruelty, the calculated callousness, and work every day to root it out of their own spirits. So they do what they must to stem the bleeding and eradicate the putrefaction.

And yet, with all of this effort, this awareness, the sickness of the psyche pours through in thick, suffocating streams of rage and denial. Sometimes, these streams protect us. Sometimes, they drown us.

Sometimes, they lead us home.”

“There are stories that our ancestors shared - stories rooted in the power of place, informed by the land, the trees, the water and all the life that teemed there. These tales were told for not only reverence, but protection. They instilled a deep sense of respect, and underneath that respect, a simmering current of fear. A fear baked within the inherent knowledge that we’ve lost as we’ve drifted away from our native lands, disconnected with the myths and rites and rituals of those who bore us. Within that disconnection lies a loss - of memory. Of crucial touchstones for interacting with and honoring the land upon which we tread, because contrary to popular modern belief, we’re not the only ones who call this place - or a slice of it - home.”

It will help navigate the uncertainties and mysteries… like the sea hag, the boogeyman, transcendent mushrooms and the voices from the void that we are all sure to face, not alone, but together.

“Conducting a ritual requires diligent study and unparalleled commitment. Entranced by the book, Patricia pored over the pages one by one. She was so entranced that she seemed to forget all concepts of time, of daylight, of darkness. Completely engrossed, she sat and read, and read, and read, blissfully unaware of the blackening skies and the shift from day into night. She noted the tools and talismans and herbs and rites that would make her party perfect, all under the watchful eye of the disseminating moon. Patricia fed her energy to the book, and the book accepted it, hungrily and greedily.

‘I didn’t understand half the stuff on that supply list, and may I suggest a different headpiece?’

She knew the right attire would be required as well, crafted by her own hands with a bounty of nature’s gifts, both living and dead. A headdress would complete the ritual garment, acting as a physical representation of the energy being channeled from above through the below.
